I wanna clarify that I don’t think you’re saying this to get Trump to win or anything. I just think it feeds into dissension among the democrat base, and I think it would make “the democrats are in chaos” a good play for the republicans.

We literally said we would vote for him if he was the nominee. Even if he was a corpse. It's right in the episode.

Tom and Cecil: stop it. I’ve been listening to your podcast for the last 10 years and have grown to respect the fact that you respect what’s right. Not that long ago you all were voting for Biden, even if his cold dead body was put on the ballot. One misstep by the old Man (like his age was a big secret) and you bail on him like rats from a sinking ship. Shame on you.

I’m sorry guys, I’m going to have to disagree with you on the Biden situation. Whether he is enfeebled or not is honestly beside the point because he has Harris standing right behind him. Frankly I see this as another right wing plot. They tried Hunter, they’ve tried the border, they’ve tried inflation, but this one seems to have finally hit home. They did the same shit to Hilary, they tried that she’s a woman, they tried that her husband would be a shadow president, they tried Benghazi, the one that landed was the stupid fucking email server. The fact that left wing media is giving it oxygen by talking about it and it’s potentially going to demotivate the base to vote is the real concern for me. If the base doesn’t vote, it doesn’t matter even if Biden manages to pull in the majority of swing voters because that’s not enough to make up for a base that doesn’t show up. The choice *will* be between Trump and Biden, and we’ve now had a solid month of everybody saying Joe’s too old and feeble to run, what’s that accomplish if not making Trump look better… this has been floating around Reddit, I’m already hearing it, “I can’t vote for Biden if he’s the nominee because he’s too old” and similar stuff. I know Reddit isn’t the greatest yard stick to judge by, but it’s the best I can do. Also in recent days, Biden has been polling better and better.

Honestly, between Newsom and Harris, I’m not sure which would be the bigger nightmare for Trump. DeSantis is little more than Trump Lite, so Newsom has effectively already beaten Trump in a debate. He can also point to his ex wife’s coke-fueled “I’ll have what she’s having” speech at the 2020 RNC as an example of what being in Trump’s orbit does to people we thought we knew. On the other hand, Kamala Harris embodies two groups that Donald Trump absolutely despises; there’s no possible way he doesn’t go full bigot in a debate with her. And that would be biblically disastrous for him. He could somehow defy reality and become EVEN MORE unpopular with women voters.

I also initially had concerns about Biden after the debate, but after a lot of thought, I'm completely comfortable voting for him in November. And not just because Apricot Pol Pot is the other guy. Tl;dr: I'm voting for Biden's administration, not for him specifically. Dems are more likely than Republicans to hold their own accountable, and there are mechanisms in place to remove a president if they're no longer capable of fulfilling their duties. This would give us Kamala as president (not a fan), but more importantly it would keep intact an administration that has done a surprisingly good job over the last 3 1/2 years of running the country. Biden's policies have largely been aimed at providing long term positive impacts. Keeping the administration intact would hopefully give them enough time to fix more of the shit Trump broke, and for the citizenry to realize more gains from the legislation already passed.

I have to wonder if the decline of right-wing website traffic is just because they’re all welcomed with open arms on ‘X’ now :/

Re: stacking the courts you could do a reform that effectively achieved the goals but in a less heavy handed way. First expand the number of circuits and districts. Revert sitting justices to circuits. Randomly assign judges from each circuit to rotational terms on the scotus. So still lifetime appointments. Insulated from individual presidents. No generational fuckery. And much larger judiciary means reduced backlogs.

The problem is, how do we keep our democracy, a living, breathing evolving thing, while protecting it from the worst impulses of the far right? The left is always the side that goes with being reasonable and being lawful, and what has it gotten us? How do we lock down all of our civil rights so the right can’t undo them whenever they get into power? We are fighting this battle more like the red coats in the 1700s, while the far right is fighting like the Viet Cong.

Isn't Ian moonlighting for another podcast? ;)

The editing, proofing and finalizing process can take time and sometimes either Ian or I can’t get to the next step right away so one of us is waiting for the other. We both handle different parts of the show so it doesn’t always line up.
