I have this argument about “alternative medicine” specifically about chiropractic b.s. stuff. It’s shocking how often I hear “well medicine isn’t perfect!” And, “well actually, medicine also hurts people so, samesies!” As well as, “ well it makes me or them, feel better so..” and it’s all garbage. Acknowledging that your nonsense is also bad isn’t the dunk they seem to think it is.

2023-12-26 23:01:02 +0000 UTCOn the treeplanting thing: back in the early 00s I was hitchhiking through rural BC, Canada, and caught a ride with a treeplanter who said he'd been working on crews for oil companies in the Alberta oilfields. He claimed they'd been planting trees, but in soil that was so heavily polluted there was no way they'd ever grow - they were just placing enough seedlings the oil company could check the "remediation" box on their paperwork. Don't know how true this was but the haunted look in his eyes as he told the story was enough for me to take him seriously in the moment
