She talked about having a "bad temper" and how she wasn't "soft and submissive" enough to her husband, so she started talking softer and sweeter to force herself to be a better wife. It was on an interview, that's also why she always looks at him like she's looking at the face of god-- because sweet-submission

2023-07-14 02:31:12 +0000 UTCI hadn't heard of this before now. OMG!!!!! Followed this down the rabbit hole. Not only are those people messed up, the IBLP crowd is a cogdis manifestation. Followed it to https://www.recoveringgrace.org/ poked around a bit and read through the comments. As bad as many were (very supportive of victims, but still very full of faith, and one defender of Gothard - so far) this comment left me dumbfounded: "Our family was also involved in this movement. My daughters and I wore 'all the right clothes'.......that is, until one day an adult piano student of mine asked why we did this. I said it was supposedly more modest to wear dresses, and that's what our husbands liked us to wear. She went home and talked to her husband about it. He said, 'Of course that's what we like - easy access!' Then I noticed that when we had 'family time', as in Bible reading, my husband would lie on the floor and peer up his daughters' dresses. We wore pants after that. Now reading this I'm wondering if there is a spiritual connection........that when one belongs to an institution where the leadership is immoral, does that spiritually affect those under him? Many families I know from ATIA have had troubles galore." Read that again: "my husband would lie on the floor and peer up his daughters' dresses." [Note: she didn't say "our daughters'", they're his."] "Now reading this I'm wondering" WTF are you still doing with him? She literally blamed her husband's sexual harassment of their daughters on the leadership. "I caught my husband looking up our daughters' dresses. Oh! The immoral leaders affected my husband's spirituality. It's alright then." Will it take catching him in bed with THEIR daughters to break her cogdis? There's healthy loyalty, like a band of brothers in war, and unhealthy loyalty, like staying with your husband while he molests your daughters.

The marriage didn't last and all their kids except 1 are now agnostic, atheist or "nones." My ex-in laws have not figured it out yet. But I keep hoping they'll realize how misguided they were/are.

2023-07-13 17:33:55 +0000 UTCJosh’s in-laws were my Sunday school/VBS teacher and children’s pastor. Now I realize that the prison “ministry” Mike Keller had was just spreading IBLP to a captive audience. I guess once you can’t have more kids to brainwash, you have to go elsewhere to find vulnerable populations. My parents didn’t fully buy in to IBLP, but I had way too many flashbacks to “umbrellas of protection” while watching this. Thankfully, I made my way out of religion all together, but I’m still very sensitive with any cult of personality situations because of how many times I’ve seen this same timeline play out. I’ve found that when looking back , I have to make myself see the humor because if I don’t laugh, I’ll cry.
