Episode 669: Musk's Twitter Takeover

Episode 669: Musk's Twitter Takeover

Comments

If Elon Musk is playing 3D chess than the only possible end game is grinding Twitter and his own reputation into dust. For 6 months, in 2016, I thought Donald Trump was killing the GOP intentionally so my theories have been wrong.

On a different podcast, one guest talked about running a private free speech absolutists FB group where there was only one rule, no one was allowed to block admins, otherwise, say what you want. It was a race to the bottom, falling quickly into racism and antisemitism. After two years, he shut the group down. Not long after that one of the most vociferous member posted a manifesto on the internet right before going on a shooting spree. The guest was so glad that he had shut the group down before the manifesto was posted since it could have been posted on the group and the admins would have been talking to the police.

Good article and discussion. I'm someone who absolutely loves twitter, just post jokes and stuff, stay away from my family, get engagement, love it. That being said I love watching the man destroy the entire legend of himself as a competent man, while burning hundred of billions at the same time, even more than I like twitter.

Love the long form article and so glad I got to hear Tom read it on my commute yesterday so I knew about it all. Thanks guys

Great episode!!!! Tom, when you were saying ‘Verge’ sounds like a band … I wondered if you had ever listened to ‘The Verve’ - which is where my mind instantly went! Not sure if they made it to the US!? Highly recommend….. Anyway - always great to listen to you both… even if you’re wearing the same shirt!

I doubt I’m the first person to say this. But Elon Musk is this generation’s Henry Ford. They present themselves as the smartest man in the room but they are really just idiots who got lucky.

Loved the article, excited to listen to this episode. Years ago my Dad and I found some rare common ground when I said that Musk was a weird douchebag attention whore. Since Musk bought Twitter though, apparently he's a business genius who is doing what needs to be done to make Twitter profitable. Apparently flushing the experienced and competent people who run the operation will make it profitable?

Is most peoples work this bonkers? I work in manufacturing so no option of working from home so fairly different circumstances. However there are a few things that only I can do/fix. If I'm not there it just waits until I am. I finish at 4:30 and do not think about work until I return.

Great episode, guys. You two do such an awesome job of discussing topics in depth. I love how you bring not only a rational conversation and deep dive but personal anecdotes to back up your angle and understanding of a story. This is really awesome, thanks for listening to your listeners and switching things up a little. Really awesome, can’t wait for more! Thank you both.
