It’s important that all kinds of abuses are brought out of the secrecy and darkness and into the light of exposure. But I also want to tell you thank you for trying to change those “traditions” for other scouts within those troops you continued to participate in. That’s so very admirable, and there’s great nobility in that. Please don’t beat yourself up about remaining in the Boy Scouts, not quitting and fully disassociating, as you got older. Think about how many boys who came in after you who didn’t have to endure the same abuses because they had you, who refused to continue that cycle, as one of their senior troop members. There’s such incredible and priceless value in that! That’s hero stuff! I wish for you so much peace and happiness, Diego, with all of my heart! ❤️

2021-06-19 23:13:02 +0000 UTCIn my first job out of college - construction inspection - the traffic control subcontractor supervisor told me that he thinks I should be paid less per hour because women get less done. I told him to pay by units of work, then. Time passes the same for women as it does for men. My supervisor told me he was proud I was "making it in a man's world." Bro, it's just as much mine now.

I attendend boy scouts (BS) since I was 10 years old, in Chile. Thing is, when I was 14 years old, I advanced to a BS troop in which the "senior" members were just a year older than us -of course, we were led by adults... "of course"-. What happened is that each patrol, subgroups of BS in that troop, had a "secret tribe". Older members were part of this group and would take us out by night, at least 1 time per expedition, and beat the shit out of us. We, the unaccepted, would be wearing only or underwear, while they punch and kick us, cut us in our back, and sometimes burn us, all because "that was the way of making us Men"... Making us deserving of belonging to the tribe. Of course, this started softer that how it ended at the night where they made us members of the tribe. We abolished that shit... but fucking hell, I was brainwashed at the beginnig. I was so... so close of keeping "the tradition", because that was the correct way of doing things... thanks... em... Dog... that we snapped out of it before the expeditions started. We tried to make it fun and beautiful for our new members... Fucking shit... that kind of things are destined to be a disaster... secret groups... toxic masculinity... Even when I know we tried to make it better, if I could go back, I would just denounce them. A friend of mine and myself remember, though, guys that enjoy the shit out of torturing children. It makes you wonder. I'm known as a kind of stoic and strong person, although sensible and kind... but I have cried so many times about this... Last time when I was 32 years old."

Granted it's got it's flaws, they used to be way worse 20 years ago, but there's way fewer headaches and cost by not dealing with the medical insurance I have for my family.

She still seems to understand and care about the struggles that the majority of Americans deal with almost daily. She hasn’t lost sight of why she ran for office or the responsibilities of her position in government. She’s a true representative for the people. She’s a hero, a warrior, and deserving of great respect and admiration, which I’m happy to give her. But here’s the thing about Katie’s ass-burning excoriations of America’s financially corrupt and fiscally evil: after publicly exposing these swampers for what they are, and doing her best to humiliate and shame them, which is undoubtedly, oh so, super satisfying to observe, I am still always left wondering what, if anything, happens next? I mean, to what productive end have any of her verbal floggings come? Because to the best of my knowledge, NOTHING of any effective or significant consequence EVER happens to the executives or the companies they run. Shouldn’t the fundamental purpose and end goal of these hearings be to assign accountability, pursue consequences, and effect meaningful change to abusive corporate financial policies?? Otherwise, Katie’s public scoldings of corporate executives on C-SPAN is nothing more than just another cable tv show ….
