well i have questions about this episode,
for example, if we’re not responsible enough to sort out where when and how to get an ID are we really responsible enough to vote? I ask because we make similar arguments in the other direction, about people who vote for republicans. I’m not trying to suggest that every person who failed to overcome the so called barriers to voting shouldn’t be allowed to vote. What i am saying is that we need to be more careful how we argue against said barriers

You know nothing about me or what I stand for. Still, I hope that comment made you feel a little better about yourself :).

2. the right arm themselves to the teeth when protesting while the left do not. Being unarmed whilst spitting and screaming at humans in police uniforms is, generally, going to lead to a bad time.

1. 'keep themselves safe from the state and extremists that want them dead.'

1. I said extremist groups that want organizers and minorities dead.
2. Considering that the state violently cracks down on left wing actions 3.5x more often than right wing actions, a stat I'm pretty sure the guys have covered, the left has every right to keep the state out of their communications.
Way to show that you've never taken a stand for anything though 👏👏

If the gov wanted you dead.. you'd be dead. This is the kind of delusion the religious love to play pretend with

I agree. The framing of technology as the ability to do harm can be applied to anything. When the car was invented, the gov't debated the legality of it. Their fear was bank robbers could just drive away while the police were limited to chasing them on horse. Eventually wisdom prevailed, someone figured out that the police could also be given cars to catch them.
What we want is to limit the ability of the gov't to do harm. No matter how much harm people can do, the gov't always has more power, that's why it has the greatest restraint. The principles our nation was founded on also curb the ability of a group from seizing gov't power and attempting to set up a dictatorship. As shocking as the insurrection was, it was doomed to fail. Not just because it was a bunch of mindless morons, but there are large swaths of our society that are actually loyal to the state over the individual. Look back through history and you will see that most, if not all, takeovers were organized in military coups where the people were loyal to the general (or colonel for the less aspiring dictator). From Rome to Cuba. Our own history is different; our civil war was economically driven as was slavery versus the cult of personality.

This may be the first time I've had a major disagreement with you guys, I definitely understand where your safety concerns are coming from, but I firmly believe that access to end-to-end should be available to everyone. So many left groups use apps like signal to keep themselves safe from the state and extremists that want them dead. We use them for protests, we use them for mutual aid, we use them for minority group meetings. Outside entities having that information would compramise the safety of so many people who are just trying to live their life. Yeah that means bad people will be able to plan things too, but as that reporter proved, if the someone wants to get into one of those groups, they can. Making it so that the Feds have to decide who to dedicate resources to will mean that it will be disproportionately used on the left as history has shown. Love the show can't wait to listen every week

The technological genie of end-to-end encrypted communication is out of the bottle. No putting that back.

Thank you for covering the story on the mother-and-baby homes. We can never allow ourselves to forget the horrors of these homes and the Magdalene laundries.
