Chopper and Hops: SUBMITTED!!!!
Added 2016-04-16 18:37:09 +0000 UTCWell, we did it! We submitted 'Chopper and Hops' to the Nickelodeon Shorts Program.
You're probably saying to yourself, "Well, that's that. Good for you", but wait...there's more...and it's probably the BIGGEST part of submitting. There's waiting! And the possible, and probable, rejection!
Everyone always thinking that I'm being negative when I say things like that, but I'm not. I'm being honest. You are more likely to be rejected when you submit something than you are to be accepted. From what I read the Nickelodeon Shorts Program had about 1,000 submissions last year. Out of that 22 got picked to be animated. Now, I'm no statistician, but I'd say that's someplace around 22 to 1,000 odds against anyone who submits to the program.
Plus, if what I read is correct, only 2 of the shorts in the past 3 years they've done the contest have gotten made into pilots, and only one of those, "The Loud House", has made it to air.
So, just like I said "this is where hope lives" about when ideas are flowing for a pitch, this period is where nervousness flourishes and thrives; where "will I get to live me dream" battles "will I be stuck as a t-com technician for the rest of my life" (Ok, I may be being a little specific with that example).
So, you may ask, why do it? Because you have to. Yes, if you don't submit your stuff it can stay perfect in your head. Yes, if you put your art out there you will be judged. You will be rejected. You will be ridiculed by those too afraid to submit their own stuff, so they trade it for looking down on yours, but...you have to. You have to because 22 to 1,000 odds is better than no odds. You have to because of one simple equation:
Hope > Settling
Below is the link to the pdf of the pitch we sent. Attached is the pdf file itself. It's not the final version so there are some typos but, hey, we need to keep a few surprises. :D
Next week we'll make up the missed comic from this week, and we'll keep you updated whenever we hear something from Nick.
Thanks for you patience and understanding, and thanks for all your support the past few years. You guys are the best.
No matter what happens...thank you.
