Jo In the Institute 1-15 Collected
By request from a whole bunch of you - the collected Institute series.
I never planned to post this on here, since it's old (some of it VERY old), and I figured you all were insterested in new things! But it is, as many of you have pointed out, nice to have it collected in one place.
So here it is! As it is older work, I've included all the work in progress stuff, sketches etc. in there for everyone.
And they are all in original size (4000px+), which I don't think I've ever posted before anywhere.
---
The first picture I did in this series was inspired by/a bit of a tribute to the artist Alexanderlegrand (https://www.deviantart.com/alexanderlegrand), who has a long running series of comics and pin-ups of women getting locked in "The Institute Brin d'Air". I really liked the concept, and made the first picture as a tribute to it.
Back then I was experimenting with doing very thin lines, and including lots of little details in stuff like seams and stuff. I think I used a 2px brush for the outside lines of characters, and a 1px for the "inside" lines.
When I'd posted that first picture, damoujd (https://www.deviantart.com/damoujd) contacted me to do a commission that would be a follow up. And then when that was done, another and another...
I never really planned for the Institute series to get so large or long. Each picture felt like I was pushing myself more and more, with perspectives and details and stuff.
Many of them took me months to finish, because I found them so taxing to draw, I'd draw a bit then take a break for a week and then continue. <:)
It's really interesting to see my growth as an artist from the first one to the 15th.
It was only on the 14th where I allowed myself to leave the lineart style that I'd used on the others. That, combined with the fact that I got a program that smoothed my lines out, and helped me make nice curves, really pushed the 14th and 15th up a notch.
Amusingly, this style very gear-based, mechanical and metal-filled bondage was never a favourite of mine. I've always preferred a more homemade and grab-what-you-got feel to bondage. Probably because Saudelli's the Blonde was my biggest bondage influence at a young age.
So most of the heavy gear ideas were Damoujd's ideas.
In the WIP section, I've included a couple of his early sketches that I for some of the scenarios. For many of them, it became a cool collaborative effort; him sketching out loose ideas, and me interpreting them in my own way.
It was alwayas fun coming up with stuff! Most of it isn't very realistic, but this series in general is definitely one where we have to accept that Jo is a cartoon that's basically invulnerable to major harm :D
