be aware of the quantity and position of the teflon washers

that's rigth, those are attached by a locking ring, you must take it away with a lateral movement.

That works for on the screw that attaches the hanger to the headband, but there is no phillips screw head on the interior of the same screw types for the two screws that attached the hanger to the cup

the screw goes in what I've called "a piece"

You are welcome Jan! No! The screw is a philips head screw on the interior, please check the first photo

When I sent the headphones and the mod kit, I thought that it might take 3 or 4 months, of course now I know that filmed to stock TH-900mk review and then didn't touch them for 4 months, and the rest is history.

Thank you Andres! I'll give it a go! So, if its a screw, how do I unscrew it? Should I use locking pliers to get a hold of the round edges? There is no grove for a screw driver, and it hs round edges, nothing to grab ahold of to twist. My only real challenge is to simply get the screw you reference above on and off. If I can do that, I'm golden

the cups are attached with a pin and lock washer

then you have a piece and a spring <a href="http://i652.photobucket.com/albums/uu250/lautaroluna/IMG_20180808_102201_zpsaqzevmlv.jpg" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://i652.photobucket.com/albums/uu250/lautaroluna/IMG_20180808_102201_zpsaqzevmlv.jpg</a>

I'll try to help. The hanger is attached with a screw <a href="http://i652.photobucket.com/albums/uu250/lautaroluna/IMG_20180808_101856_zpsfvowegpw.jpg" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://i652.photobucket.com/albums/uu250/lautaroluna/IMG_20180808_101856_zpsfvowegpw.jpg</a>

Quick question for the fostex th series mod proficient, is it easy to replace the hanger on the cups? Taking the cups off, stuffing shit in there, switching the cups, thats just 8 screws, of course. Easy Peezy. Being mechanically challenged, I don't know how to remove the screws that attach the hanger to the cup. Is there a special tool? do they pop off? I busted the hanger on my Purplehearts and a simple replacement of the hanger would fix it. I've got the hanger, how do I replace it? HELP!

Zeos you should really add your hifiguides.com link to every video going forward

I happen to like the macassar ebony cups, beautiful. I think they look very distinguished and make the headphone standout from the traditional red.

Jan Miller

Brandon you must be one of the most patient men in the world! I hope the Lawton’s were everything you were hoping for and I wish you many happy hours of listening. Thanks for helping Z make such an interesting video.

These are my headphones and mods I provided for the review. Yes, the stock TH-900 cups certainly have an appeal with the red metallic flake finish they come with. Speaking for myself I think the appeal of Lawton cups is that you can pick what type of wood you want and they all have their own unique grain patterns. The cups featured in the video are macassar ebony, by the way.

I purchased about 10 pairs of the fostex pom ear cushion plates and Dekoni attenuation rings then inserted them in various pad combos for my E-mu Teaks and th-x00s. I can choose almost any sound signiture this way by simply switching pads with a press and a mini twist. You can even get the Emu's to a relatively flat freq response, if you want. Of course, if I wanted that, I'd just put on the Alpha Primes. Playing like this at the TH-900 level, I have not yet justified the expense, but this review is stoking that desire.

Jan Miller

From sound demo the modified headphones sound pretty good, but I would miss the look of the stock cups too much. For me improvement in sound seems to subtle to compensate for the dull brown look and added weight.

Neil C

FINALLY :) from sound demo . i like the original more ,, Thanks Z ,, it was very helpful ..

Why run the sound signature a very good headphone with $300-500 wood cups . The Brainwavnz pads look like might be a nice mod. If you did the Lawton mods with the cups you would cost my more then my teak Auteur's , No thanks.

Functional Doc

Have you tried TH-X00 Dekoni pads? I found them to be the best.

TH-X00 recipe: Lawton Tune-Up Kit on drivers (do NOT install foam into the cups). ZMF sheepskin pads, ZMF Pilot Pad.

Arthritic Trigger Finger

cost of lawton stuff is absurd

One day we will see the MicroWalsh review
