A (text) 'map' of the Ten Kingdoms, and plans for the future

Hi all,

At the bottom of this post is a small excerpt that should (hopefully) make the layout of the Ten Kingdoms pretty clear, or at least as much as we've seen. It's a fragment from a future chapter that I copy/pasted here (no spoilers or plot, obviously).

Next: my plans for ADT and the Ten Kingdoms at large:

I want to create a rich, immersive and inter-connected universe of stories where each story adds cameos from the others to create a rich, full world. So ADT will eventfully end, but I'll have more stories in the Ten Kingdoms (and on Earth, and maybe other planets), but those stories will feature cameos by characters in previous stories; ADT for example.

I mentioned in the blurb in the most recent ADT chapter on Lit that there will be another story set in the Ten kingdoms after ADT finishes, but I'll explain more here for my wonderful patrons. This story will have different main characters, but they'll run into the ADT cast at some point and we'll see what their life is like several months after ADT ends. It will also show how the events of the ADT's final chapters affect a certain part of the Ten Kingdoms.

However, I'm not going to screw up a story's ending in these cameos. I get really annoyed when writers finish a story and then feel the need to create drama and ruin things for their characters just for another season/story.

I won't do that.

No cameo will significantly change anyone's ending, but instead will give you a snapshot of familiar characters after their stories end. Any conflict I introduce in cameo characters will be resolved so the endings of their respective stories are intact (or possibly better). I won't create drama for no good reason.

I have several stories in mind right now, and here they are in no particular order:

(1) The reluctance story I mentioned a several chapters ago. It will fit better in the romance category by the end, and it will give some background on some ADT characters we have yet to meet.

(2) The story that takes place after ADT, which I mentioned above. This will cover some of the time after ADT's last chapter, but before ADT's epilogue. It will have a bit more of a political focus, and fit into the "romance" category.

(3) The working title for this one is: "A Dragon's Daughter".  I don't want to give any spoilers, but I'm sure you're all smart enough to figure out where I'm going with this...

(4) I can't even tell you the premise of this one without giving spoilers for ADT, but I'm pretty excited to write it. One of ADT's minor side characters (who we've already met) will be one of the two main characters. It'll also give us some background on a couple other side characters.

Other than that, I have ideas for a few other stories on Earth, and I thought it would be fun if – for example – Hailey, Melinda, and/or Jason had a cameo in at least one of those.

A rich, immersive, and interconnected world;

That's my vision.

A world where stories actually do actually end, but you get to see glimpses of the characters' lives later in other stories through cameos; a little touch of nostalgia to make each story sweeter than the last (hopefully), but without the worry that revisiting a character will ruin their story's ending.

That's my plan.

What say you?  Like?  Dislike?

Drop a comment to let me know, preferably on discord because the patreon app kind of sucks for discussion. (Also, my phone doesn't always get Patreon notifications for some reason.)

Talk to you soon,

"Okay wait." Selene said closing her eyes and obviously thinking. "I'm getting lost in the names. Where is everything?"

"Okay, so let's pretend that this knot here is Alana's forest." Taloni pointed to a small knot in the wood on the decking of the quarterdeck. "And let's further pretend that toward the Argo's bow is north."

"Okay, the knot is Alana's forest, the front of the ship is north; got it." Selene replied.

"Ok, so here is Gralden." The Fey said, pointing to a spot that was mostly east and a little north of Alana's forest, pretty close to Gralden. "Now, Arcanum is nearly straight north from Gralden." Her finger went straight up. "It's about a week's sailing time under normal wind, though it took two weeks the first time Ethan went there because the wind wasn't good. The mine where I grew up is just northwest of Arcanum; so close you can see the airships coming in to dock." She pointed again. "And Gonorran's camp is about a day's sail from Arcanum in a northeastern direction."

"Okay, I'm following so far." Selene said.

"Now, Gralden, Arcanum, and Nalatia form a nearly perfect right triangle, with Nalatia being almost due west of Gralden, and almost directly southwest of Arcanum." Taloni explained.

"Okay, then where is Sarah's inn?" Selene asked.

"About here." Anthiel indicated a spot that was about halfway between Gralden and Nalatia, but also significantly south of both of them.
