Added 2022-08-10 07:16:15 +0000 UTCHi! Happy blog day! Just a quick one today, with a fantastic recommendation.
I am great at recommending things, as you know. And also as you’d know, my boyfriend Taubs and I watch a lot of TV. It’s our thing.
After dinner we’ll sit together and watch another episode or 5 of whatever we’re binging at the moment. Recently I talked about how we were watching the Aussie show Wentworth. Highly recommend!
(At the moment we’re actually fresh out of new things to watch, so we’re rewatching Modern Family. Also highly recommend.)
But all of that aside, because we’re a bit bored of TV at the moment - I’d like to recommend MARIO KART.
A few years ago I bought Taubs a Nintendo Switch for his birthday, and of course part of the idea was a bit selfish because I wanted to play Animal Crossing and Mario Kart.
You know how you get obsessed with stuff sometimes? Like non-stop you’ll play a game or eat a food until you put it down one day and forget about it for months?
Well we have sat on the couch for the last few nights playing Mario Kart. And instead of watching TV or finding something to ‘watch’ where we don’t need to pay attention so we can get stuck in a scroll-hole - we SWEAR at each other whilst playing a lovely, harmless animated game.
I cannot suggest more strongly that people start playing dumb games with their housemates, partners, friends, whatever. It is so much fun and it’s also so distracting!! And as silly as it sounds, it’s such a nice circuit breaker.
Believe me, I understand the irony of me suggesting playing a video game to disconnect, but it doesn’t make me feel shit like scrolling through instagram for hours does. YES it’s still screen time, NO it’s not making me smarter - but it’s fucking fun.
Any other activity recommendations for us? Either TV / videogame / boardgame / book based or otherwise?!
HAPPY KARTING! Love ya!!! Toni xx
