https://m.pann.nate.com/talk/358046247 I just found this link on a twitter thread about SVT's Mingyu... I can't read Korean but what the twitter thread said about the accusations made against him make me sick. Could you please elaborate further on this case?

Adrian

Wish you guys could have touched upon the Bighit new groups

I wouldn't call myself a BH stan, but it's fascinating to watch this company grow. I always thought that huge part of BTS' success comes from wise management and good marketing strategies. They wouldn't have that without BH. So I kind of wish the company good luck and want to see them grow and do amazing things. No matter what people call them, it takes courage and will to risk to make big changes in any industry. And I don't agree that BH is just greedy for money. They have ambitions to make history, to go for great changes. And I respect that because I think only people like them can actually make changes.

Being a target of bullying at any age is quite sad, especially when it happens during your most impressionable years (pre-college). You are unprepared, don't know why it is happening and don't know what to do about it. Then, you learn much later that some bullying is not unusual in the socialization process. How you resolve the bullying will likely shape your values and interactions in society for some time. Is it forgivable? Not really because these losers knew bullying was wrong - it is why they do it covertly. Never forgivable, if any violence was involved. Whose fault is it? 30% - the adults who are supposed to be role models; 40% - the bullies who learn from them; 30% - ourselves if we don't overcome it.

About the bullying: At the end of the day, they were kids in school when it happened. There is only so much logical thinking we do as kids or teenagers and cancelling someone forever or saying 'we shouldn't forgive them' is a little bit too harsh in my opinion. Kids who bully other kids often have problems themselves like abusive parents, low selfesteem etc. This doesn't make bullying right, but as a kid with your brain still developing until puberty is over and you're in your 20s, there is only so much that you know about how to handle psychological problems - more so if you don't have the type of parents that sit you down and tell you how to treat others (and even so, kids will still just say 'you don't understand' and do what they want). Being a bully as a grown up is totally different because at this point you should know better and have a better understanding of the world and how to treat people, I would gladly cancel and not forgive someone like that. So does this whole cancel train help in any way? Idk tbh. Getting an apology might help the victims, but only if they're ready to accept it, bc if not, what was the point? Destroy the career of someone bc of something they did as a stupid kid, which they might deeply regret now? Also all of this might maybe warn grown up bullies, but kids in school won't really care, so bullying in schools will still keep happening. So at the end it depends on the victims: if they are not ready to accept the apologies from their school bullies and move on with their life, there was literally no point in all of this. What might help and prevent things like this is education in schools and at home from parents, not cancel trains several years later, in my opinion. ps. I'm not trying do defend bullying or downplay it, it's a horrible thing, especially for kids! While there is no blame to the victims of course, it's still hard for me to put all of the blame on the bully when they're still a kid and don't know how to deal with life yet.

Do you think that bighit's Amercian group is going to consist of pure American members, or like Korean-American members?

Naela

Please tell me the name of the SK version of Suits. I LOVED that program.💜

BTStrash

I have never seen this much accusations in a span of two days. Just now they accused hyuna of bullying!? I don’t want to sound conspiratorial but is there a cover up going on? I don’t follow South Korean politics but is there a situation going on there that they don’t want in the news?

Mary A

I feel like Bighit is debuting so many boy groups it’s hard to keep track and dedicate the right amount of attention/spotlight/support to all of them. Bighit is basically debuting a new boygroup every year + coordinating comebacks of all the current artists comebacks from the many companies under Bighit. They’re making so many big moves but I’m not sure they will all be as successful as we hope

Clara

Who knows what really happened with all the bullying cases but I’m glad people are talking about it now children shouldn’t be traumatized like this and stunting their self-esteem. If the idols to have weak character then shame on them but if people are twisting their story to make some of these idols look guilty that’s unacceptable but we’ll see. Everyone deserves a second chance but when it comes to idols there’s no way of knowing if they truly feel sorry or a pretense to cover the company. Universal + BigHit sounds like a great idea in theory but does bighit really have experience training groups? There one success was BTS and they got where they are on their own from what I can tell. I just wonder if Universal knows who they are betting on. The US market gravitates to solo artists and hip hop. Groups do get record deals but they don’t really get general recognition they are stuck promoting on Nickelodeon and Disney Chanel. American don’t watch tv or listen to the radio everyone is on social media or streaming services the only way new artists get noticed is if their song goes viral on tiktok. But we were not present in those discussions so who knows what they envision for this project I wish them luck.

I agree - some of this cancel culture has gone too far. Bullying is horrible. Careers also don't need to be ruined because you may have been an a**h*le as a child. People change. why are second chances no longer possible? Also super excited about the new GOT7 song.

Cathy

Hopefully, Bighit's new boy group won't be disastrous.

Naela

Bullying is a very sensitive subject. Victims can be permanent mentally damaged so it need to address and follow through an issue. It’s so hard to proves bullying because a victim normally weak or poor or can’t fight back that why a bully pick them as a victim. Cancel culture is also another issue that becomes trendy because of social media. The after show this week will be interesting. Wish all bully’s victims to overcome a horrible experience and move on. Peace ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼

6 AM to 11 PM?....So basically Korean youth go back to school after home is over? lol .....no but seriously, that's so wrong, especially in terms of both mental and physical health, and also these kind loooong hours of school and work do seriously limit the innovative and creative side of the Korean people...because basically they only see composition in order to "succeed" in their life and have no time for achieving their personal dream of being innovative/ creative...or even to make one that's outside of the box of "Oh, I wanna be No.1 in this certain sports or this class or that college, or I wanna be a doctor...etc", unlike for example the people who live in the US that don't have these shackles. In my opinion school and work should be only 5 hours a day no more no less, and you should study only 4 years of college + a pre 3 years for the basics, so no need to waste 1/3rd of your life on school just to reach the 4 years that you are actually going to need for your real working life.

I'm sad I won't be able to participate in this aftershow, I'll be at work when y'all go live :( (think of me please as I'm dealing with asshole patients) I don't know how well this new venture with Universal will do (didn't UMG have a Korean boy group at one time that failed? Or am I thinking of the wrong label?). I admit, I'm glad to see them branching out and trying something new like this, but I've got a feeling this may fail seeing as the Korean idol culture/kpop culture is NOTHING like the music culture in the US and we don't have the shows in the US like Inkigayo and Music Bank and such that they can promote on (I don't consider shows like the Voice/American Idol/America's Got Talent to be places they could promote) And the bullying thing is just...IDK...I was bullied in grade school/high school by the popular kids (I live in the middle of the US so we didn't really have any celebrity type people), so I guess I just learned to live with it as people will always prey/bully on those they don't like/are weaker than others/look down upon/look different than them. I recently found out through DNA testing that I'm 1% Asian and I definitely show it more than my siblings. Growing up though we thought it was Native American and I was bullied for my darker olive skin compared to my classmates white skin. TBH I love my olive complexion and found my classmates words to be words of ignorance and stupidity (but I guess I've always been more mature than them LOL). We all grew up and low and behold, most of them are still racist human garbage, though some have reached out to me and apologized for their behaviors.

I dont know how well that the merging of a K company to America will do, but I think it will at least start well. However most people in America cant handle the pressure that K idols have on them. There is not as much pressure on celebs in the US because literally anything they do is accepted. Not so in Korea. I think there will be many who will crack under the pressure but due to the rise globally of kpop I think they will start strong at least. I hope they do well because I want to see Korean culture spread around the world. I wish them well.

캐서린 (Morton)

I personally dont really think people change. If someone is violent by nature then they are going to continue to be that way even if they can act like they are controlling it. I think people should be forgiven for our own sakes and that we should learn over time to let things go because its healthy. However I dont think its smart to trust those same people in the future no matter what they say. Ive met too many adults who are bullying people like they are a freshman in high school. If you evaluate people in your life that youve met or known, most people cant thank of anyone who was a formerly bad person (that they know of) that has truly changed. I was sexually abused and though I have forgiven one of the men who has abused me, I certainly will never trust or speak with him again. The guy attended church and acted all holy but abused girls underage in the shadows.

캐서린 (Morton)

People who are idols actors, etc have so much to deal with as is and I think inadequacy and insecurities make other people start to bully in those situations. As someone who has dealt with (and still currently does) eating disorders I think the mental health is not taken care of well in jobs like these. As a former dancer, people are absolutely cruel anyway but far worse in jobs like these. Everyone needs access to speak about mental health and get help with it. I hope to see more people talk about the dark side of dancers, idols, and actors and all the horrible pressures that they face.

캐서린 (Morton)

Remakes happen all the time and are not always bad. The SK remake of american TV Suits was awesome. Cancel culture is a real problem. People ignore intent and start waving their twitter pitchforks way too quickly. If someone is sorry for bad behaviour then they should be allowed to show better behaviour with a second chance.

Ariadwyn

imo, these accusations could shed some light onto school bullying, but only if the accusations are real. if these accusations were not real, then people will only make fun of those who made the accusations and there will be no further discussion.

Rebecca Zhang

In SK, would these accusations lead to any legal investigation of the bullying?

For me I think it depends how bad was the bulling. If they were terrible then no second chances, some people are just sociopaths, if it was mild then maybe. And I am ashamed they want to remake train to Busan. Just watch it with cc or voice over. Enjoy other countries movies just like they are and don't try to remake them 😒🙄.

Kriss

The only thing that frustrates me with the reactions to Bighit is seeing the same people who spent years upset that they were too financially dependent on BTS and therefore over working them, now complaining about the existence of other groups and revenue streams. No company is perfect, but it seems like Bighit have been finding ways to increase earnings that don't force their artists to shoulder even more of the burden... I hope that these ventures are successful, and that their artists can feel slightly less pressured moving forward.

Hana Park

Pledis already released a statement about mingyu’s bullying issue. Yearbook photo OP uploaded does not match mingyu’s yearbook photos. That dude is a sweetheart and is always made fun of in the group, can’t imagine him being a bully. OP also deleted the post right after uploading it, bet it was just for clout after learning about the other issues

Rocci Alvarez

And I'm an Ahgase! I was super heartbroken after they left JYP, but I rather have them enjoy artistic freedom as soloists instead of them being bound to a group that the company was no longer interest in

JinJuuuie

Danny, I wouldn't have though GOT7 would release a song either, I don't think you need to be sorry about it. Kids get to sensitive about their faves these days. These idols can still be friends outside of the group and it doesn't necessarily always add up to a comeback, so I really still don't see GOT7 or GG having a real comeback anytime soon

JinJuuuie

I always feel conflicted with cancel culture. I think the discussions that result from them are very influential on improving society and the safety/wellness of marginalized people. However, I don’t think the discussions should be career ending for ALL the perpetrators. It needs to be looked at as isolated cases since each situations is unique. In a way, we are all partial victims of the society we are raised within, which is why not all those named should be dealt with the same harshness. It’s tricky. I hope people keep talking and speaking their truth but I also hope those named as perpetrators can reflect and better themselves.

Eri

If the new group is American born people it could be problematic as far as the law is concerned. I rember when Danny interviewed the girl group from the UK he asked if they tried to emulate the kpop training model and they said they couldn't because child labor laws in Britain wouldn't allow. It could be a problem for the same reasons with the new BH boy group. There's also the cultural reasons as well.

Juan Marin

What counts as school bullying? Does it have to be violent?

Tess Austin

I'd give them a second chance, AFTER, knocking then in their ass for screwing up the first time. Train to Busan? We're going to visit David !

Steven Pambello

I believe that everyone deserves a chance to learn, therefore a second chance should be given. It is when the behavior still continues afterwards that they should be shunned and criticized.
