Knives Out: A Complex Film about Simple Things

Lionsgate was very against me releasing this video, even giving me a copyright strike for one of my test uploads (it actually wasn't Lionsgate that gave me the strike, it was specifically the Belgian distributor, of all things). I somehow managed to get a version through without any claims, though, but that may not last.

However, Patreon just gave me the ability to upload videos directly, so you all shouldn't have to worry about any of that. So, go! Watch the video and enjoy!

Patreon Ramblings - The Novel I've Been Writing

A bit last second, but I'm still getting this out on time.

I've been writing a novel for the past two years, and this is the first time I'm talking about in detail. I hope you find it interesting.

Patreon Ramblings Poll - October

Happy Spooks Month!

What we have here is five options, two of which are relatively spooky (I had a hard time coming up with spooky topics for some reason). They may come back in the next polls if they don't win but get a lot of votes, but they're here now just to be spooky. The Haunting of Hill House is a real contender for my favorite novel, but it is a novel, so I'm not sure how much interest y'all will have in it. But trust me, there is so much to say. And I do indeed love Resident E...

The Scariest Episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender

For the first time since Shaun of the Dead three years ago, I'm making a dedicated Halloween video this October. And I figured what better way of doing it than to finally return to the world of Avatar and its indisputably spookiest episode: The Puppetmaster.

I decided to take a very different approach to this video that's somewhere between my usual style and a creepypasta YouTuber, I think. And it was a lot of fun to write and record and edit, so if this video does well and people enjoy...

PATREON RAMBLINGS: 10 Favorite Movies

It's been a while, but we're back with the Patreon Ramblings! This time, we're talking about ten of my favorite movies. Not my top ten, just a selection of ten movies that I have, at one point or another, considered to be one of my favorites. Mostly movies that I haven't talked about all that much before.

Really took a while to get back into the swing of recording these things. Being on camera is still a very weird feeling, especially after having not been on camera for a few months. Go...

A Celebration of Interactive Narrative

Here it is! A full 40 minutes of me talking about my one true love. I've wanted to make a video like this for a long time, and as I said in my last post, this has taken a number of forms over the last year or so. But it's finally done, it's finished, and I'm super proud of the result. It really surprised me what this video ended up being about, and as always, I hope it means something to you.

Also, I feel like this video is going to totally bomb views wise, so if you enjoy it, shout it ...

PREVIEW - A Celebration of Interactive Narrative

I love video game narrative. That really shouldn't surprise you.

This is a video that has taken a number of forms in my head over the last year or so, and this is the form that it settled on. Definitely very different from my other videos, structurally, and frankly, I don't expect it to do any big numbers. But it's one that I'm excited for, in any case. It ended up going in a direction that I wasn't expecting, which is always a good sign. I hope you enjoy this little preview.

Patreon Ramblings Poll - September

I have been neglecting the Patreon Ramblings for a while now, and I am truly sorry about that. But I am finally coming back to it this month, and I figured that since the last poll ended in a 3 way tie, I'd go ahead and put those 3 up to a vote to decide what topic we come back with.

Though, a bit of a clarification on the "Top 10 Movies." I don't have a top 10, per se, as much as I have a list of like 40-50 movies that, at one point or another, I've described as a favorite. So, that to...

The Batman: A Tale of Vengeance and Healing

I hope this doesn't get blocked.

I am currently in the midst of some big ol' copyright nonsense with this video as Warner Bros. is manually claiming every version of the video that gets past Content ID. This version is, as of this writing, in the clear, but I don't know for how long.

I'm going ahead and posting it here in the hopes that some of you will be able to get to it before Warner Bros. comes after it. Hopefully, I can get this all sorted out soon, but for right now, this i...

PREVIEW - The Batman: A Tale of Vengeance and Healing

This video has been a long time coming.

I've been planning to make a video on The Batman since that first trailer dropped back in 2020. It combines Batman and Matt Reeves, my two favorite things, there was no way I wasn't going to love it. And then, I ended up loving it even more than I expected.

And now, almost two years after that trailer, I present to you the first 11 minutes of my current Matt Reeves-related obsession. I hope you enjoy.

PREVIEW - I Feel Conflicted About The Amazing Spider-Man

I rewatched this movie thinking I could get a short, basic 15 minute video out of it. And then I got to thinking and it turned into something quite a bit more. Suffice it to say that by the end, I think it's going to end up being reflective of the way my perspective on art and how to engage with it has changed over the past few years. Here's the intro of the video to give y'all a little taste of what's coming. Hope you enjoy!

Left Behind: A Story About Losing People

This one is interesting.

I think it ultimately is what I wanted it to be. A prologue. An introduction to many of the things we'll be dealing with in my eventual video on The Last of Us Part 2. But it was definitely a video that I had to find as I was writing it. One of the major ideas of the video simply ended up being me reacting to a trend in the script I had noticed (how many times I was asking "why?") But I think it came out well.

As for the Last of Us 2 video? My current idea...

PREVIEW - Left Behind: A Story About Losing People

I didn't think I would talk about this on its own. But then I had an idea, and here we are.

I'm very excited to be talking about The Last of Us again. When I say that I love it more than almost anything, I mean that. The Last of Us has been a huge part of me since the first time I played the first game years ago. So, I'm always eager to talk about it and why it matters to me.

As I say in this preview, I am working on a Last of Us 2 video right now and it certainly promises to be t...

Patreon Ramblings Poll - April

Vote for what I'll be rambling about at the end of the month!

(P.S. if you vote for the last one, just prepare for a lot of vague statements and not a ton of specificity. It's not a topic I want to go too deep into at the moment since it's still really in early stages. I just figure that it would be fun to give y'all a very, very tiny look at what I'm working on)

PATREON RAMBLINGS: Extended Thoughts on "The Batman"

Here it is! The first ever Patreon Ramblings on The Batman!

As I say in the video, this was much more pure rambling, so there was a lot of stuff that I didn't talk about. Grieg Fraser's cinematography, the "you've paid enough" scene, how much I love the final scene and the romantic relationship between Batman and Catwoman, and a number of other things that will probably be addressed in the actual video whenever I get around to making that.

But until then, this is going to be...

The Mitchells vs. the Machines: Two Scenes About Family

Finally! A properly uploaded main series video without any copyright hang ups (knock on wood).

This one kind of feels like an older StoryStreet upload to me. Shorter, more focused on a very specific idea rather than trying to talk about several different things at the same time. But it's mixed with my current editing and writing sensibilities, so I definitely prefer this to my older stuff. Hope you all enjoy it!

PREVIEW - The Mitchells vs. the Machines: Two Scenes About Family

Hi!

So, the next couple of main series videos are going to be a little shorter. For my own sanity, I'm trying to get myself into a position where I can always have a video ready a month in advance. Basically, main series videos will still be once a month, but they won't fall victim to unexpected events mostly outside my control like copyright disputes or other such shenanigans, because I already have one ready to go. But to do that, I have to make two videos at the same time. As such: a...

Wolf Children: Beauty, Pain, and Purpose

So, as I said in the last post, this video is currently in the midst of a copyright dispute. As of right now, I have no restrictions on the visibility of the video. However, I am still unable to monetize it. So, here's what I am going to do.

I am allowing patrons to watch the final version of the video through here. It may or may not get taken down at some point, but for now, you can watch it freely.

I believe that the best possible outcome for this situation is that the copyright...

The Very First "Patreon Ramblings" Poll!

Hello, patrons! Good to see ya!

If you don't follow me on Twitter, the Wolf Children video has been delayed due to an unfortunate copyright dispute that I'm trying to get worked out. The Patreon Cut also got claimed, so unfortunately, that one is also inaccessible. Still waiting to see how all that plays out.

But in the meantime, I figured I would give you the first ever "Patreon Ramblings" poll! You all choose what I'm going to talk about or do and I will film and release it by t...

Wolf Children: Beauty, Pain, and Purpose - The Patreon Cut

Hey all!

This video took a little longer to upload than I was expecting. It's not especially worth going into why, but long story short, icy weather makes a lot of things rather difficult. In any case, the video is here now.

This version is a little bit different from the final version you'll be getting. But it's nothing especially significant, nothing I think anyone but YouTube's copyright system would notice.

Wolf Children is one of my absolute favorite movies of all time,...

THE FIRST 3 MINUTES - Wolf Children: Beauty, Pain, and Purpose

I've wanted to do this one for a long time.

Mamoru Hosoda's Wolf Children is one of my absolute favorite films of all time. I love pretty much all of Hosoda's work, but Wolf Children sits high above the rest for me. As such, I've intended on talking about since the start of the channel.

And now, I finally am! So, here's the first 3 minutes for you to watch covering the intro of the video. I hope to have the full thing finished and uploaded by the 25th next week.
