Draw a Bridge

Some comic creators don't really put much into backgrounds but I try to push the boat out every now and then to set the scene.

I tend to make fairly generic backgrounds that can be dropped in behind the 'actors' in a  scene (kind of like the backdrop in a stage play) most of the time as this means I can make pages a lot faster. Drawing the background for every panel allows for more flexibility in composition, but speed is nice-Especially when you're 'team' of one :)

This drawing will probably only ever be used in one panel and it was a lot of work, but these sort of panels are important to include every now and then (imo) to help ground the characters and set the mood for their location. After the scene has been set you can be more vague with the backdrops and the reader will usually fill in the details for themselves (as their main focus will be on the characters anyway).
