This past month has been a lot

I know my activity has been pretty slow lately, but work has been a roller coaster. I'm really working hard because my heart is set on San Diego.

Story if anyone cares about personal life and I just need to vent.

My previous building was getting to me. I got to a point where every single day was absolutely miserable for no reason. I was just unhappy. I felt like I was being overworked by my client and I was filling multiple roles because that company has a skeleton crew.

Eventually, I asked my boss since we got a new building in the area if I could potentially step into a mini area director role. There was no focus on our East Bay properties. Since I've spent the past year and a half there might as well step up and manage 3 buildings. It wasn't the amount of work it was just being stagnant.

Fast forward and my area director reached out and asked if I wanted to manage a 24 hour property, because the one I worked at was 56 hours per week and I needed more experience managing more than one person.

I get to this new property and it's an absolute nightmare. There's drama between my associates and drama with the leasing staff. It was challenging and I managed to pull off making it all go away and just as everything was starting to stabilize an idiot resident went messing with water pipes in the stairwell of his floor. The building flooded and now the elevators didn't work because of electrical damage or something.

Now we have a wet building, 400 angry residents, news crews, 120 workers in and out up and down cleaning everything. At the center of all of this the already neurotic leasing staff is treating my company like second class citizens but also making me make up new roles for my associates to deliver food and packages up 28 flights of stairs.

Now, on top of all of that, they've created a new role for one of my associates to monitor every hall on every floor 4 times throughout the night.

To say it's been difficult is an understatement. I had lockouts on the 23rd and 20th floor. I was surprised I made it up without stopping even once, but I felt like I was on the edge of death lol.

This is day 3 going into 4 and I have to worry about whether or not this is too much for my associates and someone walks out or calls out of their shift.

But I figured I owed you guys an update.

Oh and good news. Just before this happened, I did get praise from the new property manager. He sent that to all my higher ups. The great thing about my company is that I feel I have a close connection with them.

I reached out to the VP of Operations over all of California, but based in SoCal. I told him I'm looking to move to SD at the end of my lease. He said "We just got great feedback from you. Keep up the great work and we'd love to have you in SD. When you're ready to move, let me know."

Then I met with him and my higher of regional director. We got coffee and I told him how accomplished I felt as a leader.
