Combat System Preview

Version 0.10 brings the long awaited combat system to the game. Currently it allows for you to engage in battle with up to three opponents at a time, using a variety of special skills and attacks that you can learn and develop.

By default all characters can use unarmed combat (punching and kicking). The effectiveness is aided by your overall fitness, but also a character with a high Dancing skill will find they are harder to hit. However, if you happen to find a melee weapon, then you gain access to the Swashbuckling skill, which has advanced attacks that are more dependent on the quality of your weapon and the aforementioned skill. There are other, hidden, combat techniques that you can learn through quests and they are far superior. Look for them.

Most moves are locked into their specific style and either generate or consume combo meter. You'll have to experiment to see which attacks generate combo points, but it's quite clear to see which ones consume them.

In addition to that you have a few special abilities. The first, and most powerful, is that you can use items in combat. As many as you want even. It's good to be a player character sometimes, eh? The 'Restore Stamina' button will drain 1 Energy from your character, but grant a full bar of Stamina to fuel attacks. Defend does just what it says on the tin - lowers the incoming damage you take and grants you a small buff to stamina. Good to use when you think an enemy is gearing up for a special attack. Finally, Flee can occasionally allow you to escape from combat, however be warned - not all fights can be run from.

The combat system, as well as other updates, are available to current Patreon subscribers as part of the official version pre-release.
