A life changing meeting (Page 4)

Mom and dad said they have an old friend coming over who can help as if something is wrong with me. I'm learning magic just fine. The diary answers any questions I have or problems I come across. Gaunter left yesterday. He's heading to Vizima. Dad asked him to find a mage called Mar. Mar is supposed to come after being asked by Gaunter. I've learned to do multiple short-distance teleports in the little time frames I can get to train. After a while, it became second nature.

I've been reading the diary for the past few hours. I'm grounded to my room. "Cera, come out of your room! The mage is here!" She sounds pretty impatient, and I know better than to keep her waiting. It's always come when called, or it's your funeral.

I close the diary quickly and hide under my pillow. "Okay, I'm hurrying!!" I get off my bed and put my sandals on. Once outside my room, I see a tall man with a clean-cut beard. He looks familiar, but I can't place him in my memories. He has some pretty cool things on his belt. He must Mar.

He looks down at me and straightens his beard in a thinking motion. "So, this is the little boy, huh? He looks just like you, Lillian. White hair, blue and green eyes." I wonder if he can do the same magic as me if he's a mage. All the questions I've asked mom and dad haven't been answered. They always stay quiet.

I shouldn't be rude. Mom and dad have made sure I know my manners. "Hello, my name is Cera." Hopefully, Mar is as nice as Gaunter. If Mar can use magic, then maybe he can teach me more about it. Mom wouldn't harp on me so much if we had a professional help teach me.

He reaches out for a handshake, and I match him. His hands are way bigger than mine. "My name is Mar... Your mom has said a lot about you, like how you have strange abilities. Mind if you show what those strange powers really are?" I only know one thing from Lara's diary, and that was how to teleport. I haven't gotten any new tricks yet. Hopefully, this is enough to satisfy his questions.

Mom has been a tyrant when it came to me messing with my magic. I'd like to use it more freely. No harm in asking Mar. He has more authority with magic than mom. "Can I use it afterward... Mom forbid me from using it anymore." I look over at mom, and she isn't happy that I'm using a stranger to defy her rules. I've been sneaking out to practice in the small time frames I have. All this will do is make it official.

Mar crosses his arms and gives a slightly stern look. This isn't going to end well. "Your mother has the right idea, Cera. Magic is very dangerous and violent if you can't control it." I guess nobody likes it when I use magic. Thinking back, I shouldn't have told mom and dad I could use magic. I could be learning unhindered and use it as much as I wanted.

I can see that this little scheme of mine has failed, and knowing when to retreat is one of my finer qualities. "Fine... Mom, please stop being mad with me... I thought you would be happy..." I can see her break a little inside at my words, which isn't what I intended. I just want her to stop being mad.

She caves and quickly approaches me. She kneels in front of me and gives me a big hug. "Oh, honey... I'll never be mad at you. I was scared that you would hurt yourself... I did what I thought was best at the moment." She does sound truly sorry, and that's good enough for me. I hug her back and give her the biggest squeeze I can muster.

We head outside and start walking to a safe place that I can show off my powers. Mom and Mar are whispering to each other, and they are out of earshot. I shouldn't give mom more reasons to get sterner with me. So I'm going to stop this.

~~~(POV Mar)~~~
I can feel the power in the boy. It's a nexus of limitless energy. "Your child is very special, Lillian. The magic power in him is unique, something I've never seen." I know the true origins of Lillian's and Alexander's families. I've never told them... Protecting them from the truth... The dangers that would chase them if the secret got out. It seems that I can no longer hide it.
Lillian looks more than concerned. She hasn't taken her eyes of Cera for a second. "I can't see or feel magic as you do... Just help protect my son... I fear this is more than we could ever handle." I can tell she is terrified. I'll give her credit. She hides her fears from her loved ones well.
I should ask the dreaded question, one I never hoped I'd have to explain to her or Alex. "How much do you know about your family lines? Have you uncovered any truths that were hidden from you?" I know everything there is to know about this family far in the woods. If certain people knew they were here, they would come for them.
She tilts her head to the left and keeps her eyes on Cera. "Not much. Why are you asking?" She is on edge right now. I'm very apprehensive about telling her anything right now.
My father once said that all truths would eventually be revealed. How right those words are. "I do, Lillian... I've kept both your family's history a secret. It seems that I can no longer do that with the event's taken place. I already have an idea of what is happening to your son." I'm certain that he has magical abilities. It's now time to determine if they are from the Elder Blood or something different. I've come across people with lots of magical power before, but Cera is ridiculous.
Lillian takes her eyes off Cera for the first time and darts her head at me. As if she has been betrayed. "How could you, Mar... Your our friend, someone we trust... Tell me what's wrong with my son!" She is adamant about finding out the truth.
I take no joy in testing her resolve, but it must be done. "Lillian, I'm not sure you're ready to hear it.  It could change your perspective on life if you can't handle the truth." I'm looking at Cera with calculating eyes. It'll affect him the most. The fact that he was born from them has to mean something.
I look at Lillian, and I can see a mother's fury burning in her eyes. "Tell me right now, Mar... I'm not going to ask again nicely..." I look to Lillian and indicate to move away from Cera to speak. He can't know any of this. He isn't ready.
I take a small breath and organize my thoughts, recalling the important information on their family. "Ok, Lillian... You and your husband are very special in the world of elves and magic. Your ancestors, the Aen Elle, are a powerful race of elves. You and your husband's line started at Lara Dorren." She was a powerful elven sorceress, and her bloodline carries her power. The same that's likely flowing through Cera.
She tilts her head forwards for me to continue my explanation. "Lara Dorren had a unique gift called The Elder Blood. It's said that The Elder Blood is the ability to manipulate time and space to unimaginable degrees. It's also regarded as a weapon of incredible power and destruction." Finding out a truth such as this will certainly scare you. I can see the impact of my words spreading.
I think about the more intricate details of their family history. Preparing to explain them. "Your husband is a direct descendant of Lara Dorren just as you. He has the surname Amavet. Amavet was the grandson of Lara Dorren." Amavet was the first male born from the line of Lara Dorren, and he was very powerful.
Lillian and Alex are technically family but are extremely far apart in the line. "You're also a direct descendant of Lara Dorren. That is why you have Fiona Riannon Dorren in your name. Fiona was the daughter of Riannon, and Riannon was the daughter of Lara." Amavet was the son of Riannon as well. The family is very large.
Going more into detail about their specific roles should be interesting and enlightening. "In the world of Aen Elle, both of you are like royalty. Lara Dorren was royalty, after all. You and your husband are carriers of the dormant gene that grants the power. You could only grant it to your offspring. Your son, on the other hand... He has the activated gene of Elder Blood running through his veins..." I didn't believe males can have Lara Dorren's power, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. Cera is special, someone that shouldn't exist but does anyway.
I wonder what his ancestors would think of him. "I should see what he can do. After I have all the facts, I'll know exactly what to tell you." She looks at me in astonishment, now that the truth is revealed. I would, too, if I found out information like that. Talk about an unpreparable day.
She looks down for a second and doesn't know what to do with her hands. She regains composure and takes a breath. "Okay, I'll go get Cera... He's been begging me to let him use his magic since before you've arrived. I caught him reading a book I don't recognize, but I let him keep it. I didn't tell him I knew about it. I didn't want to upset him even more than he already was." I'll have to look into the said book. Something he got, but not from his mother. Very suspicious indeed.
~~~(POV Cera)~~~

I hear mom call me. Hopefully, this goes well. The book has been a big help. "Thanks, Lara Dorren, whoever you are..." I whisper to myself. I suddenly feel as if I'm not alone. Similar to my mother being close. I can see mom, and she's not near me. After a couple of seconds, the feeling disappears.

mar and her both look at me and stare at each other. "Do I get to use magic now?" I can only do it for a little bit before I get too tired.

Mar starts messing with his beard again and squints his eyes. "Yes, Cera, go ahead and use your power." I don't waste any time, and I start doing multiple short-range teleports in a turquoise light. It's so easy now since I learned more from the diary. I teleport to my house and grab Mom's jacket and teleport back. I hand it to her with a smile. I look at Mar's face and see complete shock. I better not be in trouble again.

I take a breath, feeling a little drained from doing so many in such a short amount of time. "That's all I figured out that I can do. I haven't gotten many opportunities to try new things." Mar takes a deep breath and sighs. He looks at my Mom, worryingly. I might end up grounded again.

His mood changes after a couple of seconds, and he turns back to me. "That was spectacular, Cera! Never in my life have I seen something like that." Guess he isn't upset with me. Mom, on the other hand, looks like she wants to grab me and never let go.

He kneels and puts his hand on my shoulder. "Say, Cera, isn't your birthday coming up soon?" I don't see how that relates to the situation, but I should give him an answer anyways.

I'm pretty young, and many would say I'm a little smart for my age. "Yeah... I'll be turning 6 years old next month." I've always loved my birthday. Mom and dad always do something or give me something special.

~~~(POV Mar)~~~
I feel a light blow to my pride as I hear those words. Only six, and he can do this? Talk about power. If kingdoms got a hold of him... We would see conquest on a level that can't be reasonable. I shudder to think of what Nilfgaard would do if they got him.
This is more than enough to talk about what to do with Cera. "Let's head back, shall we, Cera?" He seems pretty sad. Lillian and Alex have been treating him like a prisoner. He probably wants to play instead of sitting around and being told he can't do anything.
He looks over to Lillian and is apprehensive about speaking. I nod my head for him to do so. "I'm not in trouble right..." The poor kid thinks he's going to get punished. I know they are scared, but this is a little much. He isn't my kid, though.
I should answer before Lillian can. She might not give the right answer at this moment. "No, of course not. I just have to talk to your mother in private." I should let him have some time away from the overbearing mother. Let him have some fun for a little while before we take the next steps.
He teleports back to the house in a flash of light, and we are left here alone. This is going to be the part that Lillian will hate for the rest of her life. I would be upset if I thought of magic the way she did.
I think about the boy's full name and how fitting it really is. "Cera Riannon Dorren Amavet... I have a feeling many will know that name one day..." He truly did inherit Lara Dorren's power. Talk about something you never see. I'll remember this day for the rest of my life.
I turn to Lillian, and I see the tears at the corners of her eyes. She already knows. "There is much to discuss with you and your husband. We will wait for him to return tomorrow and talk about what to do from here." They need to be together and plan Cera's future from this point on.
She dries the tears that almost fall and composes herself. "Is everything going to be alright, Mar? I've never been so scared in my life..." She is strong. I know if anyone can handle this. It's going to be her and Alex.
I'm not going to give them false hopes or promises. The road ahead is going to be a hard one. "I won't lie, those born with the power of The Elder Blood always affect the world... It seems destiny has something great in store for your son..." I can tell my words didn't help her, but we need to face reality here.
The boy is special, and his destiny is surely important. "I'd make sure you let the boy play with his power. It'll only help him." The more he uses them. The better his control will get.
That way, he won't be in danger of harming himself. "I'll try, but my heart tells me never to let him use the power again... I hope you are right, Mar, For our family's sake..." Tomorrow will be the day I talk to them about what we shall do.
Unbeknownst to the little family, there is a council meeting in Tir Na Lia. The Wraiths of The Wild Hunt are preparing for a journey. The power that was blocking Cera has since left, and the boy has used it. Now they can track him. It's no better time to grab him.
