So What's All This Then?

I thought I’d take the time to post a little-bit more about this project. It’s not exactly an art blog (I’m not an artist, and I do, when I do them, are maps), and it’s not exactly a writing blog either. So what is it?

I’d like to think of this as a worldbuilding blog, where every post, though perhaps disparate from the others, adds a new thread to the intricate tapestry I’m weaving (or something along those lines). But what would these posts be?

At the moment I’m thinking about things like:

Flash-Fiction: vignettes of 1,000-words or shorter (possibly much shorter) created to showcase particular characters, races, cultures, or locales; or just a cool scene I thought of.

Short Stories: 1,000 - 15,000 words or thereabouts. These will be far less common that flash-fiction though far meatier, with plot and a lot more chance to elaborate on certain themes that underpin the world of Elyden (more on those themes later).

Worldbuilding: this consists of anything from simple descriptions of locations, groups, people, ideas, creatures, etc. These can be used by you in things like roleplaying games as locations, monsters etc. I have actually been slowly working on my own D20 OGL rules set for the world. If there’s demand for it I may post WIPs of such things.

Maps: world maps, regional maps, demographical maps. These may appear in a vacuum, though more likely will have something to do with short stories and worldbuilding posts that have appeared recently.

Serialised-Novel: This will chronicle the travels of an explorer who unimaginatively refers to himself as Chronicler as he travels the lands of the Inner Sea (Imagine a 3rd person account  of explorers like Marco Polo or Ibn Battuta), speaking with natives and learning of their culture. At least that’s how the story starts out...

Of course, all the above will be specifically tied to the world of Elyden, which brings me to one last thing I’d like to do. I want to introduce readers to a list of characters and places through the flash-fiction, short stories and the serialised novel. Though not directly linked with one another, a character introduced in a short story might appear in a cameo in the serialised novel, or a region that Chronicler visits in the serialised novel might later warrant a worldbuilding update in the form of a short travelogue or map.

If you find something I mention interesting, just let me know, and I might elaborate in another worldbuilding post or short story. If you /think of it as something akin to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), or the Planeswalker stories from Magic: the Gathering, you’ll know what to expect. Of course, being but one person (as far as you know) with a full-time job, limits my productivity, compared to those examples.

I’m actually really excited by this last part, and hope it pans out as well as I’d like, with as rich a cast of characters as I’m planning. :)

I will soon be uploading a few maps of the world of Elyden, as well as an overview of the world and the themes I'll be addressing.

Thanks for following my adventures
