Every other time he said reincarnated, but here he abbreviates it and essentially says ‘made flesh,’ that is, he is the bodily representation of that fallen angel, the ineffable divine made into human flesh. It’s a tiny little moment that I could write an entire philosophy essay on. That whole song is so deep and layered and it’s one of the best on GNX, imo. Kendrick Lamar is a bonafide genius.

But I didn’t realize he was sampled till later. Also him being reincarnations of those artist from the past is something I never thought about and it’s blowing my mind. Kendrick truly is a poet oh my gosh 😭

It isn’t about the rich and famous/hollywood/influencer LA. Because everything below the 10 freeway (and low key some neighborhoods above it) are heavily populated by the black and Latino community but no one really knows/cares about that. In general, the nod to the Latino community (with all the Spanish bits) was soooo cool to hear. And him including the Latino community in the squabble up music video was awesome. This album is such a love letter to the city and I freaking love it so much. It gave me goosebumps. Kendrick is a freaking legenddddd.

He’s talked extensively about Whitney being his HS sweetheart, her traveling to the Motherland with him - him taking a five year break after that journey due to personal issues that caused writers block etc. So the ability to weave his dual love for his writing and his woman is especially incredible. Gloria means Glory, in Spanish, which ties back to the Mexican influence throughout the album. On The Heart Part 6. That is a sample from SWV, which I think you did see. A staple Black R&B group from the 90s that I’d definitely recommend listening to if you love vocalists and harmonies. For Reincarnated, Kenny embodied Tupac’s flow (and of course there’s an actual Pac sample - Made N****), and tells his (meaning Kendrick’s) story, as well as what’s speculated to be Robert Johnson / John Lee Hooker or perhaps Jimmie Lunceford, Billie Holiday, and of course, Lucifer himself, who he postulates is just being reincarnated as versions of these musicians, trying to get it right each time. Pac is also from the east coast. Born in Harlem and went to school in Baltimore. He repped West coast once he signed to Death Row,. Biggie is from Brooklyn. Pacs mother is Afeni Shakur, and his aunt is Assata Shakur, famous activists. Turn this TV Off - The title and theme is a reference to a Prince interview on TRL Man at the Garden - sort of an homage to Nas and One Mic. And the “I deserve it all” refrain felt more like a rallying cry - like, here’s all these things I’ve done, all these things I’ve been through, how much I’ve had to humble myself and go through, to finally feel worthy of the success I have, why would you ever think YOU and I are in the same playing field.

As someone born and raised in LA Dodger Blue, heart pt. 6, and gnx are such homage to LA people. Dodger Blue to the people born and raised in LA, heart pt. 6 to the people who helped boost him up to be bigger than just an LA rapper, and to the full circle of gnx bringing up the up and coming LA rappers that may come after him. A quick breakdown Dodger Blue is Kendricks way of saying not everyone who lives in LA is from LA. Very not all kinfolk are skinfolk. Don't say you hate LA when you don't travel past the 10 is to represent the actual physical divide of the 10 freeway. South is representative of South Central LA versus north is Hollywood, rich and famous, and where most transplants reside or start their LA journey.

Stimming is something that yes, a lot of neurotypicals do to a point, but is magnified and less controllable for us. Vocal stimming is always an interesting one I think. I find myself just making sounds, almost beat boxing in a way a lot. with la la la's and what nots. My brain is mostly music though so. Do I remember the name of that I guy I went out with for 6+ months after I left my first husband? NOPE. Do I still know every word to Bwomp even though I hadn't listened to it in just as long? Absolutely.

2024-11-23 03:31:40 +0000 UTCreincarnated is really an amazing track bc people have already theorized that the first verse is from the perspective of jimi hendrix, second verse is billie holiday or whitney houston and the last verse is between god and satan, in kendrick's previous albums i would say he talks about his complicated relationship with religion and how he views some of the values thats taught (and hypocrisy) but what i really like about the final verse is how much it applies to kendrick, he's always had issues with his savior complex (another great track you hear more about this is "u" on tpab) and the fact that he's trying to save other people but he knows he himself is also not perfect and the fact that he simply can't "save" everyone (which he came to realize in mmatbs)
