"The Great Impersonator" - Halsey *FULL ALBUM STREAM*

wow this is a sad album. i feel like that one spongebob meme of his dry as fuk because I've been crying so damn much this last week. but I can't help but love what Halsey has created for her album releases. she's been on a historical run for me personally and this album is probably her MOST honest and vulnerable to date. songs with heartbreaking life lessons. and it's a loooooong one too so strap in, get drink, grab a snack and the tissues and let's listen to The Great Impersonator" by Halsey.

When I first listened to this album it was so sad I had to stop but when I finally got through all of it.. its so beautiful. Halsey has been someone who I’ve followed since I was 15 and her music has got me through so much. It makes me sad that it wasn’t received well because I think if people gave it an honest chance it would resonate so much with more people but everyone is so quick to jump on the hate train nowadays

Britney Santos

the first time I listened to this album I went on a walk and laid down on this hill during I never loved you and looked up and there was a rainbow. completely clear day. i will always remember that

Lily

Thoughts on the submissive sounding chorus in Dog Years- haven't read all the comments so I don't know if someone else has already touched on this, but referencing power play in a song about death kind of nods to the consent behind power play while death is an nonconsensual thing. Through the idea of death being a kind of power play, being "mercy killed" as being something she has consented to, she purposely plays into the helplessness she has in face of her own mortality and takes some of her own power back. And then there's Os being called "a little death," and the possibility that she could even be sexualized after her death and making satire of that preemptively, and the things that people have already said about them asking to get into heaven. And finally, power play is typically something done with a lot of trust and care (if it is consensual)- they are saying that they trust death and it would be a caring thing that would relieve them of pain, mirroring physical power play situations where the pain eventually bring a strong wave of relief. While being uncomfortable to listen to, the whole situation they are in is uncomfortable, and I think she is purposefully asking us to feel a fraction of that discomfort.

Lily

I like that. I think she also is talking about how you remember those tragic deaths from your youth and is contemplating if she’d be remembered by people from her hometown the same way.

I like to think of Only Living Girl as the “Prologue” with Ego being the start of the story, and “The Great Impersonator” as the Epilogue with Letter To God 98 being the end of the story.

Joseph Chavez

I’m strapped in.

Joseph Chavez

Got your Patreon for this and THREE HOURS!?!??

Joseph Chavez

Please watch the if I can’t have love I want power movie it’s amazing!!

Taylor

I think hometown is her realizing what it means to die young and how it's stays with people but how it changed your perspective when it's you

Kenna J

i loved this album so much and cried to it! i really hope you will react to her old albums too (badlands, hfk, manic)

Viski Vi

my take on arsonist is "my apologies arsonist you loved me ~the great impersonator~ and i can play arsonist and burn shit down too, watch me. also don't know if you saw ppl saying her sons fathers name literally means fire.

Ceilidh

yo since she officially dropped it and added it to the album you need to listen to alice of the upper class it's such a fucking vibe

Ceilidh

i never loved you is kinda the opposite of what you said... it's like i actually did love you, dummy. and he was a piece of shit in the relationship but is gonna love her so much when she's gone and build a house in her name and donate the money and love her in vain. but she actually loved him for real. not in vain.

Ceilidh

the thing with dog years is that ash was pondering why we put dogs down because we see it as the humane thing to do and letting them suffer is cruel and yet we force humans to suffer and she was actively dying for a while there with lupus and leukaemia and was wanting to be put down and go see her dog. also she's begging god at the gates of heaven "i've been a rly good girl can i come inside". ~also~ her sons father was being a dick wad and making her feel like she was in the dog house and like she had to beg to come inside.

Ceilidh

I have dreamed of the day troy reacts to halsey 😭 i watch all the time but i NEEDED the full reaction to this 💙

Laura Hoover

subbed so i could watch this review in its entirety. this entire album wrecked me in the best possible way. i sobbed from start to finish and it hit me in ways i never would’ve expected.

Candice

I joined to watch you react to this! ❤️ Who are the first two songs he listened to by?

Sarah Dawson

when i sat down to listen to this album, i started bawling at the "this is halsey street" clip in the first song. it just hit the hell out of me

Kiera Clements

Are you planning on doing the bonus tracks at some point too? I highly recommend them, they’re so good and add something to an already perfect album

Nikki

Hurt Feelings did indeed hurt my feelings.

Bri Renneisen

troy, you probably already listened to manic, but I would loooove to see you react to that album too! I loved the great impersonator but manic hits home for me. there are just sooo many songs on that album that makes me understand myself more and feel heard, like there's actually someone else in this world that feels the way I feel. I love halsey man, she's a complete artist and beautiful beautiful songwriter, would love to see you react to her more!!

Nicole Bancalero

Ahhhh I literally just joined to ask you to react to this! This is a life-changing album for me personally, and I feel like Halsey has been so overlooked when her art (in its many mediums) is so incredible. Cannot wait to watch this.

oh_annie___

I loved ever single lyrics on this album, it feels very vulnerable and emotional, knowing all the things Halsey went through is very hurtful, one of my favorite albums so far.

Aaron Menez

Have you ever heard of San Holo? Give him a shot.

Ally ❤️

Now I need a Heathens X Darwinism mash up

Emma R

"I Never Loved You" is an INSANE narrative for a song. Tackling the father of child sucking, imagining if they HAD passed, how he would have handled it, and how the public would think he's just so great. I love that H made sure to be like "BTW he sucked" even in the state they were in. What an awful man.

Camila Dejesus

TROY PLEASE REACT TO NIKI’S NICOLE AND BUZZ ALBUM IM BEGGING 🙏😭

Caileigh

i know you listened to M and liked it, youll love the album!!

charlie

TROY PLEASE REACT TO SOCCER MOMMY'S NEW ALBUM EVERGREEN IM BEGGING 😭

charlie

Being diagnosed with multiple chronic illnesses in the last year at 27 oh I fear I won’t make it past the first song 🥲

Sarah Langston

Also side note: don’t know if you know but she left Life of a Spider as a draft because it was so hard for her to sing (emotionally) she could only do one take

KJ

The line about dying at 27 in the first song made my jaw drop and I knew I was in for a RIDE

Jessica Scaffidi

Thank you for reacting to this!! As someone who’s chronically ill no one has quite captured what being young and sick feels like quite like Halsey. The fact she wrote this thinking it would be her last album, the last words before she died hits so hard. She wanted to leave behind the last piece of her for Ender and for her fans. I have never felt more seen than listening to this Album. It might be my AOTY.

KJ

I LOVE this album so much I’m so excited to watch this :)

Nova Rakowski

I just manifested this.. don’t know how.

Katorah Thomas

It’s such a beautifully done album. i feel like it’s her most creative. Vocally, sonically, storytelling, lyrically, it was just phenomenal.
