UPPER TIERS EXCLUSIVE: DIGICAST! Second channel... plus Kenobi chat
Added 2022-06-08 14:00:50 +0000 UTCWe weren't able to get the upper tiers a bonus ep or outtakes this week (there weren't any worth sharing, frankly), but we did record this half hour podcast for you in which we clarify our plans for the second channel, and then veer off into discussing the Disney+ Star Wars show...

Am really enjoying Obi Wan, have only just noticed that the episode title numbers are doing *that thing*, so am expecting someone to lose a hand next week :)

2022-06-08 16:29:18 +0000 UTCIt's hard to argue against any of that! Glad you mentioned the quarry fight... which felt like the most boring location imaginable for a face-off.

2022-06-08 16:28:01 +0000 UTCMy inner Star Wars nerd has been prodded! I haven't seen the latest episode of Kenobi yet, but I've found the first three to be a bit mediocre. I want to like it, as I really love Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan, I love Vader, and I even love the Inquisitors after watching Rebels, but so far it's failed to ignite any excitement or genuine thrill. There have been some great character moments, particularly with Obi-Wan and Uncle Owen (I love that Joel Edgerton is channelling Phil Brown), and generally the performances have all been excellent, but, for me, it's just all felt rather flat. I absolutely agree that it looks really cheap on occasion - like a Star Wars fan film where people have supplied their own costumes. I've never had that feeling with The Mandalorian, which I think is head and shoulders above Kenobi in every respect so far. I think there are a few reasons why it feels flat and a bit lifeless. The direction is somewhat pedestrian, which surprised me as (like you said) Deborah Chow is usually excellent. The action scenes have seemed particularly poorly executed. Many of the sets and locations are bland (did they really have Vader and Obi-Wan face off in a quarry?), and the score is really lacklustre. Sound, and particularly music, is a huge element of what makes Star Wars feel like Star Wars, and I think they've dropped the ball massively in that department with this show. Again, this is something The Mandalorian doesn't have a problem with as it has a clear sonic identity that sits well within the greater Star Wars saga. Perhaps I'm being too critical, but it's only because I expect Star Wars to be something special, not just "fine" or "OK." The Mandalorian is something special. Sadly, I just feel let down by Kenobi so far. Man, that was bordering on a nerd rant!

2022-06-08 16:14:20 +0000 UTCHellooo. Yes, I'm aware. Annoyingly, it's something that cannot be done as a block-edit. I'd have to change every single post manually, which is... very time-consuming. I did a bunch of the more recent ones, and all the ones (such as this) going forwards will be available, but it's one of the most annoying quirks of Patreon that there's not an easier way to do it.

2022-06-08 15:58:55 +0000 UTCBit of an admin issue by the way Mr. B; I was going back through some older patreon content and prior to about mid-January (which I guess might be when the Writing Tier was introduced?), the £5 posts aren't accessible to the £10 tier readers. Probably not something you need to break your back over, I know how much is already going on, but something you might want to adjust or have someone else go back and adjust on your behalf when the time presents itself
