A SMALL CHANGE
Added 2022-06-06 08:10:52 +0000 UTCHappy Monday, all. Hope you had a lovely Platty Jubes (sorry) weekend.
As you've no doubt been aware, we're a bit behind with some things. In fact, all the things. It was inevitable that it’d all start slipping once we started prep for Digi Level 2, but before all that, Sanja obviously had Covid for a week or so, which had already put us on the back foot… and then we had to film Digi Level 2… and then we had to recover from Digi Level 2… and then last week I got absolutely floored with a horror show of a stomach bug, and Sanja had a cold (just a cold: not you-know-what).
Aside from that, I’m STILL trying to find work. Or, rather, waiting to hear about things that could become work. It’s stressful.
Nevertheless, I don’t think we’ve exactly ignored our Patrons in that time – every tier has had its own exclusive stuff, and I’ve done two live streams for the Biffo’s Brain tier to boot in recent weeks (I know I still owe a few of you your teletext pics – they’re on the way, please bear with me).
Being the first unbroken week we’ve had in ages, we’re hoping that it will right the ship somewhat, and we can start getting back to normal. BYAMPOD should be up later today, though we still need to record it. We’ve also got a Digi in the can that needs editing, but it may end up just being a Patreon exclusive, depending on how it turns out (basically… I felt ill throughout it after eating those crisp/chocolate monstrosities in the Piccalilli Willy vid, so my energy levels are through the floor). One way or another, you’ll see it.
A CHANGE
One small change going forwards is that we’re no longer going to have the lo-fi sofa chats on the main channel. We both enjoy doing them, and I know a lot of you enjoy watching them, and – certainly – the ones we’ve done recently were a necessity, given we didn’t have the time or energy for anything more involved.
For me they sit uneasily alongside the videos where we’ve put in more effort, and which are more comedy nonsense, and the fact is… and this is not a moan, just stating a fact… they do tend to act as a bit of a black hole on subs and views for some reason.
However… we don’t want to feel we can’t do them ever, so while we think everything on the main channel from now on should be “plussed” in some way (guests, characters, fancy editing, ‘specials’)… any lower-fi, more chatty, videos we do will now go on our second channel, where there’s less to lose. I’ve made the three recent sofa vids unlisted, so there’s more of an unbroken run of blue wall/days out videos for anyone stumbling upon it.
I’ve never really known what to do with that second channel… but this seems like the right call, and consequently it’s now called Digitiser Extra: https://www.youtube.com/c/DigitiserExtra
This might mean you may not get a video on the main channel one week… but instead one may appear on the second channel. Those who want the chatty vids should be able to find them easily enough. Those who inexplicably hate them will, hopefully, not be driven to unsubscribe furiously from the main channel. It’s a win-win!
Because I didn’t get around to saying it this month… thanks again for supporting. It continues to astound me that such a relatively small thing as Digi (and BYAMPOD) seems to have such loyalty and generosity among its audience. Ultimately it’s you lot – the core audience – that we do this for. Without your support we really wouldn’t bother to keep ploughing forwards. So thank you. Again!
Right. BYAMPOD… and a bonus BYAMPOD and a Writer’s Club Pod all to record and edit today. Digi tomorrow!

Great idea for the chatty vids. I absolutely love them but I understand they are different from the usual faire.

2022-06-06 16:12:11 +0000 UTCYouTube seems to optimise like mad for channels which turn out frequent content to a formula, which absolutely sucks for variety channels, or just anyone who wants to put out things with a high production standard without it becoming a full-time job. Which is pretty rubbish even as a viewer; there are a couple of people like Jago Hazzard or Big Clive who can do stuff multiple times per week to a repeatable formula and make it entertaining, but for every one of them there's thousands of channels turning out "evolution of giraffe wrestling games 1988-2021" or "top speed of every Mountfield ride-on lawnmower" videos which clog up your recommendation feed because you happened to absent-mindedly click on one once and it played most of the way through in a background tab before you realised. *ahem* I reckon having a second "I put videos here and it does whatever it does" channel makes sense, at least as an experiment. Although it does sometimes feel for me like fighting the algorithm gives random boosts and drops anyway, as if YouTube is trying to prevent you from figuring out what exactly they're looking for! (Reply Guys typing billion-word essays in the comments, if my experience is anything to go by. Those always seemed to do unexpectedly well, up until the point I delisted them so I didn't have to deal with Reply Guys.)

2022-06-06 12:54:21 +0000 UTCWe're still doing the sofa stuff!!! It just won't be on the main channel.

2022-06-06 10:49:17 +0000 UTCI'm going to add my voice to those saying they will miss the sofa stuff. The other content is great.

2022-06-06 10:00:11 +0000 UTCWorry not, Paul! You've kept us all entertained with a myriad of new content recently, which is especially impressive given how much you've had on your plate. It probably does make sense move the sofa chats off the main channel to keep that channel for the "core" Digi content. We'll still watch those videos and love them on the secondary channel. Hopefully, new subscribers to the main channel will also discover them and love them down the line as well.

2022-06-06 09:07:49 +0000 UTCIt's a bit of a faff, so probably not... but I'm thinking about it.

2022-06-06 08:53:16 +0000 UTCThey may still stumble upon us! We'll promote them as normal, they'll just be... elsewhere.

2022-06-06 08:52:43 +0000 UTCActually one thing I can recommend for my fellow subs, those lowfi chats? Perfect for audio ripping off youtube and playing as a podcast when you're driving/walking/cooking/whatever.

2022-06-06 08:35:42 +0000 UTCAdmittedly I'm a boggo cheap sub (really must fix that) but I absolutely don't think any patreon tier should feel they're not getting love right now , there's been plenty even before you take into account the snowball avalanche of bullshit you've dealt with recently in various forms :)

2022-06-06 08:34:14 +0000 UTCI love the sofa chats, and don't understand the internet. They are wrong. Are you gonna shunt the old sofa chats onto the other channel, or is it just going forward / too much like hard work?

2022-06-06 08:33:01 +0000 UTCAlso - glad to see you spell Platty Jubes correctly. I'm a linguistic anarchist except for when people say 'Platty Joobs'. That's CLEARLY incorrect.

2022-06-06 08:32:36 +0000 UTCI'm really sad that the sofa vids will be on the extras channel in future - they're some of my favourites. Totally understand the reasoning, but it makes me sad that more people won't stumble upon them and enjoy you two being cosy. Take care of yourselves, always excited for what you have to make <3

2022-06-06 08:27:42 +0000 UTCYeah, it's a bit of a pain. We were heading in the right direction with everything, and then those three sofa vids seemed to hobble us. Really strange. We didn't want to stop doing them though, but I get why they're more for established viewers than newcomers or filthy casuals!

2022-06-06 08:23:02 +0000 UTC"they do tend to act as a bit of a black hole on subs and views for some reason" sounds like a job and a half sometimes this Digi lark, a shame because I like those chats too.
