If you ever want to react I would be happy to give you a Florence Education the way Ally gave you pre-briefings for Taylor Swift albums I love Florence so much and I would be so so so excited for you to listen to anything of hers - especially Dance Fever its such a good unit of incredibly written pop (and produced by Jack Antonoff!)

2023-05-07 16:53:25 +0000 UTCI think that Florence and the machine with Lungs (2009) and Ceremonials (2011) started with this Pop-indie music, with references to mythology and ghosts etc, with How Big How Blue How Beautiful (2015) they went for a bit more rock and rich sound, still referencing these themes (this one is also a visual album with a movie called The Odyssey), while High as Hope (2019) is more orchestral pop with songs that maybe don't even have a chorus and it's just Florence singing such poetic lyrics. Lastly Dance Fever (2022) I feel is a combination of all these part that they mastered through the years: it's epic, it's mythological, but there's also some more rich and strong sounds fueled by orchestral ethereal elements. Dance Fever really is a complete album.

I don’t think they are trying to outdo Fleetwood Mac so I don’t think that’s a reason to hate on it. I understand people’s reservations with it meant to be such a big band within the story but I just think if I didn’t know the Beatles and someone made a show about them, would I believe that was the “best” or “most popular” music ever/in the world? A lot of it is fairly simple for today’s music. Maybe I wouldn’t believe it, so that’s my head canon to make it make more sense lol. I know it’s not a real band but it’s real characters with stories and relationships and the real actors actually sing and play their real instruments so? Idk. There’s complexity there so I don’t think it matters completely when there’s a backstory to the songs. Nobody cares when it’s a musical or any other instance of music written or created within a piece of work by fake people. When I buss it down to HSM 2 soundtrack, I’m not worried about whether Troy Bolton was a real person or whether that’s him on the drums in the background.
