Ice, Ice, Demon

Just sharing my make of the demon we posted yesterday. We had the translucent resin queued up, so I decided to go for an effect showing their (semi-)invisibility powers.

I used GW contrast paint to ink the majority of the model, letting that taper toward the bottom, then used drybrushing blended from the top down with my best crack at icy colors. Pretty happy with how this came out. When we make more, I’ll likely keep using this effect.

That looks amazing!

Yeah, win or loose combat is costly. Though two of the factions are pretty heavily geared towards pure aggression. We've only played two player or us with the automata as a third and it still works really well. I'm sure you can find at least someone to give it a go!

Hah, yeah, I know its supposed to be more "worker placement" with "a little everything." I'm fairly certain I'd love it. I just can't imagine getting the crew here to play. But I'll try.

Thanks! It's one of our favorites but it does seem to be one of those "love it or hate it" games. I think some people see mechs and assume it's a sort of early industrial era Battletech or something, which it very much isn't πŸ˜‚

Oh, yeah, been seeing your Scythe stuff on IG. Looking great! That game is a pretty big blindspot for me. We need to pick a copy up for the office.

Absolutely! Coming at something new with a fairly clean slate can be good, I think. I've been slacking on mini painting so much, otherwise spending that time painting tokens upgrades for Scythe, learning ZBrush and messing around with this game idea. I'll get back to it eventually.

Hah! We're well familiar with those. After all the Wallhalla work is done, I'm really hoping to dig back into my mini-painting roots. Feels like it'll be a good time to experiment.

They're not the cheapest thing out there but after picking them up on a potentially alcohol infused Amazon shopping spree a while back I'm pretty happy with them Plenty of potential if you experiment.

I'll have to check those out! I don't typically use GW/Citadel stuff either these days (mostly Reaper, but I'm starting to get back into Vallejo), but I wanted to see what all the hype was about with these. I like them okay.

I have yet to paint my PT Wizzards terrain that I printed clear, I should get to that! The old painting queue grows ever longer and I've been working on a PnP game more than actually painting. I've never used contrast paint but I should give it a go sometime. I've never been a Citadel or GW guy so it just hasn't been on my radar. My favorites are the high-flow transparent acrylic paints from Golden. High pigment but very thin, mix well and they're fantastic for speed paint airbrushing over preshading. Not as color rich as true ink but less likely to delaminate or reactivate when layering.

Thanks! Yeah, I really love it. I used some of those translucent Wizkids D&D models to test it out when I got my first contrast paints a couple of years back, and I've had a pile of translucent prints gumming up my paint queue since, haha. (I think the Wizzards PT set is the only thing I've used it for since we started printing in clear.) Hoping to get around to some of those soon, but this was new, and it felt right.

Love the results! Glazing ink over clear resin is so satisfyingly cool. Delicate but the results are awesome.
