regarding ADCAPS, Australia has a special role. certain West Australian islands come to mind. DARPA named the location in a number of tender documents but I think that's probably enough said. 100% our subs will fire ADCAP Mk7, with the hozie whats it, thingy magiggen, and hulla balu improving its search performance, counter measures, range and speed. Lets hope these new one' however don't up in a chinese fishing trawler net. @#$#@$@

That is true Clive, we Aussies love our ADCAPS. I have a cousin who is in the Navy and serves on a Collins. He won't unfortunately tell me his station :( he keeps saying "the less you know the better mate." When I'm asking questions lol. But he has said that they (his boat in particular) is capable of shooting British weapons as well as US mk48 ADCAPS, to which he confirmed they have trialled and was successful at launching Spearfish torpedoes.

There is still plenty of US input: Mr Sammut : ASC has a capability partner in the form of advice from Electric Boat in the US: "Senator AYRES: So that is a significant step to try and mitigate the risks associated with one project? Mr Sammut : It's one step........"

Also, sorry Aaron, no way in hell the Aussies will be buying French weapons - Shortfin, or whatever boat the Aussies buy, WILL have a US (or US derived) combat system and almost as certainly, MK 48's. Overall though, if the Aussies thought the Swedes were slippery buggers, they are in for a rude shock with the French, LOL!

In fairness, its in the nature of Aussie politics in general to hang dirty washing out in the open gleefully. Military procurement programs are, compared to most other countries, very transparent and given this will be, by some margin, the biggest combat kit buy ever for them, it gets a lot of attention. Remember how big a deal the Polaris program was for the US? Then is proportionally as big a deal for them. Finally, remember this is the country that gave us Rupert Murdoch: digging up dirt and throwing it at fans is what Aussies love and do very, very well.

Pauline, I know you're trying to do things for Australians but for the love of god, Australia CAN NOT AFFORD A VIRGINIA CLASS SSN! The back story for the non-Aussies and the Aussies that didn't know, Senator Pauline Hanson was given a tour of an American Virginia Class SSN when one visited the naval dock here in Brisbane a few years ago. ever since she's been smitting on the idea of Australia with fast attack capabilities in older 688i's or Virginia Class Nuclear Subs

To be fair to the Collins is capabilities are pretty much outrageous for a diesel, and virtually all "new" sub designs face vast problems.... most nations dont have them made in public. Dont start me on the French subs...... We should be renting US subs 1 generation old....... it would save US Fleet costs and we would have Subs of known capability at a cost completely aligned with our allied military forces.
