what is the approximate discovery range of a large passive sonar, for a target like a CVN and for a SSN and a SSK?

You've said at least twice during your CW streams that a sub in this class in 2019 left port, and was lost by USN/RN assets that were trying to track it, and was never reacquired.

It was for me. I closed the app and started it again and it worked.

Based on the improvements made in the Type 6 nuclear subs, I would put the Yasen on par with First flight 688 for about the first 2 years of operation. After that, it would become noise and vulnerable.

Jive, if you have time for a little speculation, with what we know about the original Yasen design, how do you think the Yasen would have stood up to the contemporary subs of the time if it had been launched on schedule in the 90’s?

Alfa was a NATO code name given to the Project 705(K) Lira class. The lead boat was named K-64 and that's it. No other name. Other hulls of the Project 705 class were named K-316, K-373, K-463 and the Project 705K hulls were named K-123, K-432 and K-493. Note that only a handful of submarines in the Soviet era received some honorary name, e.g. the first nuclear boat of the Project 627 Kit/NATO: November class K-3. Since 9.10.1962 she was officially renamed to K-3 Leninskiy komsomol.

The fall of the Soviet Union was the main reason why the Navy was forced to postpone this (and lots of others) project. All the military budgets were cut to a bare minimum and it took quite a few years (nearly a decade) to stabilize & get things back under control.

Yasen means Ash Tree. Russian Navy often names classes with a different name than the lead boat.

When this class was designed Russia was lacking knowledge about the pumpjet system design. That came later on after tests on modified Kilo class SSK. Next gen Russian SS(G)N will surely have a pumpjet.
