Iyanden Army Painting - Extra Details for Characters

Welcome to the second part of the Iyanden army painting post, in this post I will go trough the details on how I elevated the basic Wraith unit paintjob to a really good standard for character units.
The same steps described here for the Spiritseer where also used for the Wraithlord (Sword, and Metallic details)
The first thing I did was to enhance the yellow resulting from the airbrush, for that I just did a simple highlight using Model Color Lemon Yellow, and in places like the knee i did a final highlight mixing White into the Lemon Yellow.
After that i picked all the details in different colours:
Corax White for the white details, the gems and the leather
Black for the undersuit
Teclis Blue for the blue parts
Decayed Metal (S75) for the bronze parts
Game Color Silver for the blade
The first step I did was to paint the leather by using Muddy Ground from Xpress as a simple layer. On the front of the model, to make the strands stand out more I did a highlight of Baneblade brown targeted towards the centre of the model and the upward facing bits.
The white details, including the mask were shaded doing glazes of Space Grey Xpress, slowly building up the contrast. then I glazed white for the highlights. On the helmet I did a glaze towards the bottom using Model Color Deep Yellow mixed with a bit of Volupus Pink, then I did Lemon Yellow mixed with Deep Yellow at the very bottom.

The undersuit was next and i decided to indulge myself and do the official 'Eavy Metal recipe for Harlequins. You can find it on the 'Eavy Contrast Archive web but for convenience it is:
Stegadon Scale Green
Mix Blue Horror for highlights until pure, i did two stages in between myself
The Blue helmet and shoulder pads, were coated in a mix of Leviadon Blue, Talassar Blue and Xpress medium (2:1:1), then highlighted using Teclis Blue, temple Guard Blue and a mixing white into Temple Guard.
All the metallic bronze parts where shaded with Black, this was a very targeted shade, then Highlights using Runelord Brass. I used a 1:1 mix of Decayed Metal and Runelord to blend all the transitions. Finally a Highlight of 1:1 Runelord and Game Color Silver with some touches of pure Silver as the final highlight.

The red gems were all base coated using Flesh Tearers Red, and shaded towards the top right using a mix of Flesh Tearers and Black. First Highlight was Evil Sunz Scarlett, that included the dot on the dar part that will be white at the end. For the subsequent highlights on the Light side I used:
Wild Rider Red
Fire Dragon Bright
Lugganath Orange
Finally a small dot of pure white in the dark corner.
The green gems (Blade), were basecoated with two layers of Ork Flesk Contrast, then shaded mixing black again. Highlights were:
1:1 Moot Green and Warpstone Glow
Moot green
1:1 Moot Green and Lemon Yellow
Finally the blade was done by glazing Volupus Pink carefully and slowly to create the gradients and a final edge highlight of Silver. I tried that method for the Wraithlord and it was a pain in the ass, so I did the other half of the blade with the airbrush and a little cleanup. with Silver.
And that's it!
This took me about 6-7 hours in total, it was worth it for a character and I'm very happy I took the extra time to do him justice.
Thanks for the support and I will catch you in the next one.
BYE!
