[Hereafter] Chapter CXL: Merits of Mercy

I wound up changing the title from the original plan. The "Father" title was a play on both an FMA reference and Paracelsus's title as "father of modern alchemy," but that didn't work with how little the chapter wound up focusing on him.

The ending sequence might get a few raised eyebrows, especially considering who else was on Team A and all of their malfunctions, but I think there would still be a mechanism in place for situations like this. Plus, it lets me play with some other stuff in the future, so I think it makes sense to have it there.

EDIT: Moving down all the way. 4/21/2024

Be careful poking that bear, Andersen, lest you get bitten even worse. Though both he and Olga have a point that Taylor made an emotional decision based on her past. Still, they should look at it from the other side, that it's good that Taylor still has the emotions and empathy to be affected by something like that. No one can be completely logical and rational at all times, and if they can, they're likely a monster. People have feelings and emotions; while Taylor shouldn't be ruled by them, they're a part of what makes her human. And as you mentioned, considering the other members of Team A...yeah. I think another big reason for people making a fuss is both how infamous Jack the Ripper is, and that Jackie was literally trying to kill them minutes before. Yes, Mordred is also infamous, but she was introduced as an ally and is a more distant, historical/mythological character. Jack the Ripper is more recent and based on historical fact. Anyway, another good chapter, and I'm looking forward to/dreading parts of Taylor's past coming to light.

Nagato and "Abraham" are leery of the decision to enlist Jackie, yes, because the two of them are relatively "noble bright" on the scale of idealism. You'll notice Taylor doesn't really argue much with them. Andersen and Olga, however, are both coming at it from the angle of *why* Taylor enlisted Jackie, and that's the part they both have a problem with. Andersen more than Olga, but Olga's concern comes with the fact that Taylor's decision making being compromised by an emotional event in her past is going to put more scrutiny on her and her past. That's normally a much bigger problem, on account of Chaldea being accountable to the UN and the Association, but here because Romani is a mother hen and Da Vinci won't be willing to just ignore it. Taylor will definitely be wiling to point out the hypocrisy of having a problem with Jackie when Jeanne Alter is on the team and Mordred is working alongside them.

I mean, Taylor has killed way more than Jack could manage in a millenia.

Gifted-Monster

I’m honestly not sure why people are so against her decision. I mean they have Jeanne alter working for them for fucks sake. As Taylor said she has worked with much worse people. She worked for lung for gods sake. Given his powers and propensity for fire he likely has killed children before. Jackie has revealed a workable lever and while it’s possible it’s all fake it’s equally likely they got a very useful assassin working for them. Edit: I get why there is contention, I just don’t get the degree
