I think the biggest problem with Gou is that it really faild to make it clear how much time the spend in the loops. It just was now implied with one clause that Satoko spend many years to learn for St. Lucia and faild. But the Anime faild to show that to us and so we dont really understand how that must have influenced Satoko.
The same is true for this last confrontation, it could be years they spend to resolve this conflict by talking and punching but it is not really made clear so it feels like a to rushed resolution.
I think when the (witch) Satoko in the end gave back her live to Satoko it was implied that she seperated herself from this Satoko and went to chase down Rika in another fragment not in this world. So it could be many years until they see each other in another fragment again.

I am super conflicted on how I feel about Gou / Sotsu. On one hand, as a stand alone anime, the writing was lackluster and I feel like the ending was rushed. Plus we had all the recaps which was super unnecessary. So Sotsu in particular is extremely flawed.
However, as a Higurashi / Umineko fan this series has rejuvenated the franchise and made me fall in love with it all over again. Was the writing bad? Sure. But was it entertaining as all hell and expand upon two of my favorite characters? YES! So I enjoyed it immensely and it had some of the biggest "wtf" and plain ol' fun moments in the series. So I think it did it's job of being entertaining, introducing people to the series, and bringing life back into it.
On a side note, Ryukishi is hinting at a new series next year and there is a Higurashi event with "Big News" and a countdown on the website. So it seems likely we'll get a continuation of where we left off here or maybe an Umineko Gou / Remake, so I am still super hyped!

I agree, the resolution felt rushed and unearned. But I think the purpose of Gou / Sotsu is to be a setup for whatever animated project they have coming in the future, since Ryukishi hinted at a new WTC anime next year. So if there is an Umineko Gou or some other new series based around Lambda and Bern I can kinda see why Gou and Sotsu were done the way they were since they would just be meant to introduce the concept of Witches and the sea of fragments to non-VN readers.

Isn't a new Higurashi manga coming out soon? Not sure if it'll get another anime, but if not, then you might want to check out that new manga.

I think it’s implied that witch satako(lambdadelta) still has her powers and that at end she just walked away from her piece to go stalk Rika. Gou/Sotsu kinda just felt like set up for making rika and satako immortal beings at odds with each other while also being in love with other. There’s more I wish I could say but it’s a fine line to spoilers for other WTC work

This was… so disappointing. None of the resolutions felt earned. Nothing was answered. Nothing was resolved in a way that felt remotely satisfying. Up until the last moment I was hoping for… something but wow. What a waste of a perfectly good premise. The ending scenes were cute and good but I would have appreciated them so much more if it felt even remotely earned by any of the characters.
