Retro Game Historica/Culture | PC-6601 SR (Special Edition) Picture History

The NEC PC-6601 is a 1985 Japanese computer that was from the PC-6600 series. It was special because it had the 3.5-inch floppy disk drive as part the hardware ..

It could show different resolution for the screen with different color range. The lower resolution is 160x200 with 15 colors but the high one was 320x200 but can only show four colors.

PC-6601 SR:

There was also version called PC-6601 SR that had some wireless keyboard using infrared beam! This was very modern style and design and more expensive and is show in the detail pictures here! It was also known as Mr PC.

This was more powerful machine in 1985 so there were quite lot of games on there. These included some Namco and Capcom arcade game like:

- 1942

- Galaga

- Space Invaders

- Mr Do!

- Xevious

Here is advertisement for the PC:

Boy, I can’t tell you how much 1942,1943, and Ikari Warriors I played in middle school. My school let us out for lunch so my friends and I would go to the local arcade and play during our break, good times. No surprise NEC made such a nice PC.

Love the color!
