that is shocking!! if one Enemy can do that.. imagine how vulnerable they were in the middle of the night... and i believe there is alot we dont know about

If I recall, in his book, Sledge recounts that he saw two Japanese soldiers at night. One jumped into the foxhole in front of him and the other went down the road. He had his rifle handy, but he didn't shoot because he didn't want to hit the Marine in front of him if he had suddenly popped up.
What had happened was it was his turn to sleep, but his buddy fell on watch hence how the Japanese soldier was able to jump into their hole. He killed him and after he got out of the hole, somebody smashed with their rifle like a baseball bat. He was moaning on the ground, so another Marine came out of their hole and shot him in the head. It wasn't until the morning once there was more light that they realized what had happened
