Update Time

Hey guys, here's what I've been up to!

The code for the map system is finished! The map is actually made of 30 different pieces assembled together so the player can click on locations to travel to.

Here's the arrangement of the various pieces, so you can get an idea of how it had to be done to work in twine.

Here's what the locations are:

Male Symbol: The Hole. The local gay leather bar catering to a hairy sleazy crowd. You can visit to get information or just get laid.

Coffee Cup: Capoccino. A coffeehouse not so secretly run by the coffee mafia. Here you can pick up some jobs after you join them, or meet with your informant, Joey Decaf.

Burger: The Burger Hut. A fast food restaurant where you can buy cheap food to restore HP, or talk to people.

Medicine Bottle: Phyllis's Pharmacy. A medical shop that's run by the oldest woman in town. High end healing items and status cure items can be bought here.

House: Your apartment. You can sleep here to restore HP and refill magic, and also check your mail.

Film Reel: Shoestring Studios. This is where the (extremely low budget) magic happens. This city is famous for all the bad movies that come out of it, and here's where they're filmed. This is also where you work. A location for information, to pick up odd jobs, or to cash in a few rumors you've heard.

Skull w/ Top Hat: Saturday's Parlor. The mysterious man who only goes by the alias Saturday can be found in this smoky lounge located near the graveyard. If you want info, help, or even a bit of magic, Saturday can help you... If you make it worth his while.

Flexing Bicep: Captain Ted's Gym.  Once a wrestling legend, Captain Ted is now retired and running his own beachside gym, sometimes giving out private lessons. Some say he'll do it for free if you give him some racy photos of athletes, he especially likes wrestlers (or so they say).

Cracked Mirror: Ol' Spooky's Occult Trinkets. This old coot has picked up the strangest things from who knows where. If you need spellbooks or maybe a pendent that wards off poison, he's your man.

The X marks: Wandering around. You can either wander the city, the desert, or the beach. You could find items, fight monsters, encounter people, the sky's the limit.

More locations could potentially be added later if they're needed, but for now, this is the world you explore.

Like usual, I've been working on Zap and Andy as well. Huge updates to several rooms have been made to accommodate the larger puzzles.

My agenda for this next week is:

Twine Game

1. Write the code for wandering locations.

2. Start fleshing out the major plot beats.

Zap and Andy

1. Finish coding the events leading into the second half of chapter 2.

2. Code the drug trip sequence.

My Roommate's Dad

1. Finish the sequence of events for the first day.

I'll be back next week for the end of the month update. I hope you guys enjoy your weekend! :D

Comments

Not at all a silly question! :) The demo for Zap and Andy isn't out yet, a lot of heavy life issues for multiple members of the dev team have slowed it down a bit. (Game design is a cursed career choice) when it's done I'll give it it's own post and announce it on stuff like twitter as well.

Rick

silly question I can not find a link for the demo
