omg haha man I really wish the show did a better job at portraying these things 😭😭😭 We would have enjoyed it a lot more.

HIa Lian is all about making money to become worthy of Khua… and therefore he’s TOTALLY clueless when it comes to dating. And he’s just a serious quiet guy…think “strong silent type”.. that’s why he comes off as super cold…he’s really just clueless.

It contextualizes Kuea's actions a lot better and I understand where he's coming from more. I didn't start to really empathize with him until much much later in the season but even then he was still annoying to me LOL. It's so frustrating watching him continue to not be himself when Lian clearly loves him for who he is from the beginning! - Brian

2022-11-21 23:15:27 +0000 UTCNO idea if anyone else has said this but you have to know two things about that isn’t mentioned in the series but it’s in the book and it makes a LOT more sense. Khua’s parent’s are an ambassador and his wife. Khua’s mom is, in his eyes, the perfect wife.. always proper, the perfect host and ambassador’s wife. This is why he thought he had to be as good as his mother for Lian … Second, his Dad is not a part of the old Thai family. He married into the family. And the house Khua lives in is actually his father’s house. Which is how he sort of ‘inherited’ the house. This is really important later on in the plot even though they never address it in the series.
