After restarting this scene last week, things have come together much smoother. Finding the appropriate scale, positioning, and color values to achieve convincing depth has been the most challenging aspect, while designing the architecture and characters has been a joy. I love designing architecture on the fly, simply playing with geometry and color until the puzzle is solved.
The crude thumbnail I shared in the last update was the only prep I did before diving into the pixels, so just making up the details as I go. I like to go off a vague framework, which allows the pixels to best dictate where the vision goes. Opposed to forcing a detailed hand drawing into pixel version, which I feel overlooks the potential charms of the pixels.
The static image is pretty much complete at this point. Check out how the image has evolved so far in the time-lapse.

Already got a rough start on the next piece. More to come!
