User-submitted COMP/CON Achievements
Added 2023-10-06 20:16:45 +0000 UTCHello everyone!
In this post I laid out the basics of COMP/CON's achievement system and how you can, if you'd like, contribute to it. Details about exactly what C/C will be able to do will necessarily be a little vague and nonspecific, but because the majority of the new active mode isn't written yet, I can let these achievement submissions help guide the process, then as everything gets closer to completion we can go back and refine and rework submissions that can't be captured.
If you are a Patreon subscriber at any level you'll see another post in a few minutes with a form that you can fill out to submit your "official" support achievement that will, in one form or another, definitely make it in. You can also submit public achievements as often and frequently as you like.
The public achievement sheet is here
(Vandalism on this sheet can be reverted but it's a pain in the ass to fix, so please be respectful of mine and others' time)
Anyone can add as many achievements as they'd like to on the public sheet, but keep in mind that they may not all make the cut.
Both the public sheet and the patron form will be open and accessible for a good long time. I'll begin to let you know (here, on the discord, and on the sheet/form themselves) when the window starts to close. Please feel free to take your time.
If you'd like to ask questions about this, or brainstorm with others, etc. I've created a new thread under the #comp-con channel called #achievements
Anyway, here are the guidelines:
Things COMP/CON won't be able to do:
- anything involving maps or map elements, the new active mode won't be able to track any of that, so things like "hit an enemy at max weapon range" or "move your max speed diagonally" can't be determined.
- anything with encounter elements that are not tracked by C/C or generate non-equipment damage. C/C couldn't track, for example, an enemy taking damage from being pushed into a wall.
- anything involving special rules not explicitly tracked by C/C
Things COMP/CON will be able to do:
- Everything that v2 Pilot and Active mode can do today: understand build information, actions used, roll results, stat changes, values modified, etc.
- Track allied/opponent information in aggregate (eg. how many opponents has your table defeated in this encounter)
- Track information against GM units: C/C will be able to understand that you dealt X damage with Y weapon as a result of Z roll against an opponent, as well as the opponent's stats, class, type, template(s), etc.
- Track mechanical interactions between allies as a result of actions (eg. how many times have you bolstered and ally/how many times have you been bolstered by an ally)
- Track mechanical OOC/downtime rules: succeeding and failing on rolls, filling clocks, completing (tracked) downtime actions (like establishing an organization)
Examples of good achievements:
Good match between rarity and effort, possible to achieve naturally in play, straightforward for C/C to track
- Brand Loyalty (Epic): Field a GMS Frame at LL12 with only GMS equipment
- Shut Out (Common): Complete and Encounter without any ally losing a point of Structure or Stress
- Camaraderie (Legendary): Bolster 30 times with one pilot
Examples of bad achievements:
Impossible for C/C to track reliably, too difficult to accomplish naturally, or otherwise just generally outside the boundaries of good taste
- The cake is a lie (Epic): take your NHP on a date
C/C can't track this sort of narrative stuff, and (at this time, at least) will not allow GMs to award achievements - Multikill (Common): destroy 50 opponents in a single encounter
Rarity mismatch, and probably outside of what you could reasonably expect anyone to achieve. Might work, in some cases, as a secret achievement (see below) - Party Bus (Legendary): Carry every member of your team in your Expanded Compartment at least once
An otherwise good achievement, but C/C won't be able to track non-strictly-mechanical uses of equipment. Stuff like this might be difficult to intuit before the new Active Mode is out, but this is something we could work out together
For the time being please restrict achievements to official Massif or Massif-released content. LCP-based achievements may be possible, to a certain extent, in the future, but they're out of scope for the time being.
Also please keep in mind that non-patron achievements might get chopped and screwed, but I'll address that in the Discord channel.
Thank you for your time, as well as your continued generosity. I'm really excited for this!
