Here's a look at another area and more ui elements. I imagine this area is accessed through the cave entrance in the previous scene. Speaking of which, I polished up the beach area and included the basic hud.

Not much change here but I did tone down the background gradient to better fit the scene and be a little easier on the eyes. I'll probably have to modify the life and food meters to ensure good readability on all backgrounds.
As for the ui and button functions, I'm keeping it simple with the goal of only using face buttons with a few exceptions. In the basic active mode you have a button for attack, item, inspect, and menu. If you inspect an item it will give a short description and button prompts, which may vary depending on the item.
Well, that's the basic control premise. I still have the shoulder buttons if needed, but I would like to keep the action simple and focus on exploration. If not needed for any special function I suppose it couldn't hurt to use the shoulder buttons as a shortcut to cycle your active weapon and item.
I'm having a lot of fun making these, as my desire to truly make this game continues to grow! I'm even considering to further develop the concept into next month instead of starting a new mockup, but we'll see. If you guys are into it I'm down!
