I know it’s probably too late, but Odessa, TX is now offering rewards to pervs looking at other peoples junk in public restrooms! https://www.odessa-tx.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_10222024-757 Please, if possible, encourage any dudes to push for privacy in public restrooms!! Y’all need stall walls!!! It’s ridiculous that people are so consumed with everyone else’s junk.

dddebz

YES, Please!! It implicates all digital content via public libraries. They also discuss the broader unfairness that pubs can change the content without notice, making *footnotes* and *citations* unreliable. HUGE harm to the public’s unrestricted right to information.

Argued this week (again??) - besides the “sham marriage” question, the DHS non-reviewable issue is still too much power. Immigrant marries US citizen. They can’t live together because there was a denial (based on error) so now the department claims a sham because they didn’t live together. The case itself is perverse and brings up the whole immigration is deeply broken. Bouarfa v. Mayorkas, Sec. of Homeland Security (23-583)

I would like to hear discussion more broadly about the presumptive pardon as even a thing. It’s clearly going to be rampantly abused by corrupt administrations.

dddebz

definitely want to get into this!

Hachette publishing group has sued the Internet Archive because they loosened restrictions on their lending of digital books during the pandemic. I would love to see a discussion about whether Hachette’s suit is reasonable/meritorious, especially if there’s analysis given to their price-fixing scheme in the late 00s/early 10s.

Some jurisdictions it might be half-assed or a political/popularity contest, but at least in Chicago, it's a very thorough, sober evaluation of whether this is the kind of judge w the intellect, temperament, work ethic, and courtesy/fairness you'd want to appear before.

So, at least where I live, your local Democratic Committee/org should be able to provide you with some information. Other progressive orgs do the same (e.g., the "Reclaim" movement). In PA, the state Bar Association (which is not the same as the entity that licenses attorneys) offers "unqualified," "qualified," or "highly qualified" or something along those lines. That can be helpful to figure out a minimum threshold for whether you should vote for someone, but may not provide details.

Philly Basement Bar is closed in mourning.

Thank you! I didn't know this was a thing! I imagine many others don't know as well. I'm not even sure why we the public vote on judges (and apparently not everywhere either) so interesting episode prospect overall

Wishing every Clarence Thomas a very God rest his soul

Your state and/or county bar associations often provide guides on who they deem qualified. YMMV depending on the bar association, but having worked as an investigator w the Chicago Bar Asdociation, I feel very confident in following their recommendations.

It is confusing and none of the ones on my ballot had any information!

I'd love to hear more about Discord attempting to refuse a DMCA subpoena. https://torrentfreak.com/discord-disputes-dmca-subpoena-demands-rejects-anti-piracy-partner-role-241015/

Also I have never voted for a judge in my life but I like the idea of trying to help voters know what to look for

SCOTUS term guide should be coming after the election for sure!

Last week, TD Bank plead guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering and violations of the Bank Secrecy Act. There are some really hefty fines in there, and the OCC is directly limiting the bank's assets. But people I respect (e.g. Elizabeth Warren) are saying it doesn't go far enough. Exactly how far does this go? https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/td-bank-pleads-guilty-bank-secrecy-act-and-money-laundering-conspiracy-violations-18b

In line with creeping fascism theme, have y'all been paying attention to the "legal reform" in Mexico? Scary shit that when you see what's happening, it's eerily similar to what's been happening here, just over decades rather than a few years.

Kevin

General Milley has stated his concern about a future President Trump recalling him to service and court martialing him for speaking out against Trump. If the orange one were to win, Biden could/should preemptively pardon potential cases of interest to a future weaponized justice department. How could this best be done to survive future SCOTUS scrutiny? Perhaps don't give reasons in the pardons?

Sean

We probably heard about the court orders in regards to Georgia election officials must certify the election and that countries didn't need to hang could the ballot. A quick PSA on the Friday show would be nice to have.

Can we get a breakdown of the letter the US sent to Israel in regards to steps to take for face an arms embargo? I remember hearing that Israel was violating US laws. Could that be included in the breakdown?

YakkoWarner

Judge McBurney has been on a roll lately. And before the election, could we get a review of the 2020 election lawsuits, and maybe a preview of what we may see this time?

Maybe a look at the 5th Circuit reversing a contempt order and removing a judge in Texas?

Professional-Grade In-Car Audio Guy

Idk if this would be a rapid response, but a guide to voting on judges would be nice. Also a heads up of cases at SCOTUS, I wanna know where to focus my dread this term.
