What Should OA Cover This #RapidResponseFriday?

We're back at it! We've got a Rapid Response coming up fast; what do you want to hear OA cover for Friday?

Please let us know! And also, please use that heart button on comments to give us an indication of numbers, so we can gauge interest!

And, if you have specific legal questions on a given topic, feel free to comment with them!

I’ve been wanting a podcast to cover Scofield v. Guillard. Aside from the wild filings it touches on pro se representation and how much leniency the wild defendant is getting. Is that justice!?

Tim H

I think that way only in situations where the case is about something progressive/humanitarian

Fenix Feniks the sassy serpent

Presumably he could claim she’s a Boeing whistleblower or that she’s going to rule against Boeing and soon the problem will sort itself

Jack

Knowing literally nothing else, the fact that Alito, Thomas, and Gorsuch wrote the dissent makes me wonder if maybe it’s not insane.

Jack

Would be great to hear Matt’s thoughts on the case of Heriberto Carbajal-Flores an undocumented immigrant who was arrested on gun charges after defending a tyre shop during the George Floyd protests. Prosecutors said he didn’t have a right to own a gun (partly bc of his undocumented status) but the judge dismissed the charges on 2A related grounds. This made Republicans furious because of their dislike of immigrants but seems the logical conclusion of their 2A jurisprudence.

Jack

They can't answer everything that gets asked on these threads, they use this as a way to gauge what the audience wants them to cover most. So, use the "heart" buttons to vote on what you want covered!

Andy the Dandy

I understand if the Gavel Gavel stuff makes you not want to talk about the Trump trial here, but I feel like I've missed out a lot not hearing anything from Matt on the outlook of the case beyond the first week or two. If you don't think it steps on your other shows toes too much I'd love to hear the outlook

ToddTheOdd

What is the Purcell Principle? Also, if you have time, can you go over the procedural history of Robinson v. Callais (Louisiana redistricting case)

Shad Riley

And they're not even succeeding in making him look any worse than the prosecution already stipulated to. They're just going for, "this guy doesn't like us!"

Gmork

Either? I hadn't participated in one of these threads before last week so I guess I missed if this is just sourcing the things he talks about on the Friday show or if there's something else I'm missing. Also the patreon mobile app is rough to navigate so if I'm missing responses to last week's threads I will not be shocked.

How much longer until Alex Jones is kicked out of his mansion and homeless on the streets? I thought the creditors had agreed months back how they were going to pull the gold out of his teeth.

Cameron Kushwara

The recent shadow docket activity RE Louisiana's congressional map, which included a public dissent which doesn't always happnen.

CacklingDonut

Where are we at with the big RICO case in Fulton County, Georgia? (I'm talking Young Thug, not Trump et al)

Lydia Smith

it might be a bit too much 'politicians on trial for corruption', but maybe just a pinch of the bob menendez trial?

lauren

https://wapo.st/3V1NO4y What's going on with this decision re: majority-Black districts in Louisiana? Are the justices doing Opposite Day voting?

Help, I'm trapped in a podcast factory!

If you are looking for a non-Trump topic: What about the Justice Department court filing which says Boeing breached its DPA? What are the implications and what can we expect next.

I'd love to hear thoughts on the defense strategy in cross examining Cohen. I get that they want to make him appear non-credible, but he's got documentation and other witnesses that corroborate what he's saying. The defense seems uninterested in contesting evidence, they just want to try to make Cohen look bad. I can't imagine it's effective.

Christopher Bosch

Do you mean last week like the stuff about the lawsuit? Or true rapid response OA stuff from other weeks?

Lydia Smith

The credit card ruling would be great for OA because the media has dumped on the district judge when the 5th Circuit is to blame (and to a lesser extent, the sluggish Supreme Court).

Dr. Clerk

The recent insane copyright supreme court decision: https://www.wiley.law/alert-Supreme-Court-Determines-Some-Copyright-Owners-Can-Recover-Damages-Beyond-the-Statute-of-Limitations

Fenix Feniks the sassy serpent

I would love a politics and predictions round up to be honest. You all have a lot going on, go news lite one week.

Steve S

Am I missing the place where rapid response Friday questions are answered? Or did Thomas just not really answer most of the questions from last week?

Drew Hickcox

How the hell has the Star Wars burlesque show notalready been shut down by Disney? Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

Philly Basement Bar is back open, and isn't taking this shit lying down.

What options if any does Jack Smith have against Canon
