OA815: Trump Gagged, McCarthy Bagged, & GOP Dragged

Today, Liz and Andrew tackle the two biggest stories: Matt Gaetz having ousted Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House, and Donald Trump’s civil trial in New York. All that AND an Andrew Was Wrong featuring more on the 14th Amendment.

In the Patreon bonus, the two tackle a Liz Was Not Wrong about why Trump doesn’t have a jury trial in New York. Hint: yes you can still make fun of Alina Habba!

This is a free post on Patreon.

Comments

Since it’s a civil trial, can the judge send Trump to jail for contempt if he violates the gag order? I grow tired of judges failing to do that, especially since the criminal cases could result in him going to jail. They need to get over taking that step if they really intend to put him in jail, this could be a trial run to set the procedure for how that will work. Engoron seems like he might be inclined, but can he do it? Send him to jail for a week, give him a cell, put secret service in the adjacent cells and let him stew. Anybody else would go to jail for way less, they need to stop effing around.

Thank you for being the first to make sense of this!
