In Defense of Dark Souls 2

Great to see a vigorous defense of this game, one that takes on the sacred texts directly. I've been waiting for you to do this one , and I was not disappointed.

Hbomb, how are your gaming videos more controversial than your political videos? You'd think it'd be the opposite - but no, people care more about your opinions on Dark Souls than they do about whether or not you think Anita Sarkeesian should be flayed. And I don't know if that's a good sign or not.

I really like this video, particularly the review of the narrative. However, you didn't touch too much on the "all the enemies disappear after 7 kills" mechanic, which in my eyes made the game more "grindy" than it should have been (death means permanent loss of souls in an area, leading to more farming IMHO). Maybe I just need to git gud.

I was so excited when I got the notification that your DS2 video was finally released. You didn't disappoint! I'm not a Dark Souls 2 hater, my reaction was more disappointment than anger when two thirds through the game I just completely lost interest. I never connected with the story, and some aspects of the combat, mechanics, and aesthetics felt off to me. And while your video didn't convince me that DS2 is a much maligned hidden gem or even a good game, it did convince me that I need to give the game another chance and be more open minded to its choices. So that's a win!

I'm a bit surprised you didn't focus more on the loss of total health per death, now that you talk about healing. That's something that really annoyed me for a long time.

Two Best Friends Play has one. The one playing is new to Souls, and the other had played Demon's and Dark as of DS2's release. Pat (the veteran) doesn't really share H.Bombs perspective, but they have fun.

Neither does mine. On the other hand, if he's got $3000 worth of subscribers at $2 a crack... Maybe you need to give him more money?

I really should revisit Dark Souls 2 in Let's play form - Is there a good one someone could suggest. I have never really found the desire to get past the first few areas either while playing or while watching other let's plays in the past.

My girlfriend and I did enter into the Dark Souls series starting with Scholar of the First Sin.... and now so much makes sense about why it seemed really, really, really unreasonably hard.
