Countdown to Phase 2: Missions & Watches ⏰

With just one more update before Phase 1 of SpaceCorps comes to an end, this seems like the perfect time to start sharing some more Phase 2 plans 😀

The key difference in Phase 2 will be the introduction of Missions. These will earn you Stats - like IQ and Strength - which allow you to customise MC more to your tastes. You've actually played some prototype missions already - Wrestlemania, Finding Anna, and ServiCorps - and they've proved some of my most popular updates so far...

Which is reassuring 😁

WATCHES:

First up, you need to know that mission availability will depend on time of day - which SpaceCorps splits into 6 Watches. These are: Reveille, First Watch, Chow, Second Watch, Slop and Night Watch [names like morning and lunch would be far too easy and intuitive for SpaceCorps 😂]. You can see the Watch pips at the top of the image - although they will only appear during mission selection to avoid cluttering the scene.

Today, I'm only going to deal with the mission system for First and Second Watch. The others have very different options, so I'll discuss those at a later date.

FIRST & SECOND WATCH MISSIONS:

SpaceCorps doesn't do grind - each mission will have unique content and be played only once. Think Elder Scrolls or GTA rather than Summertime Saga 😜 I'm also not going to leaving you wandering round empty rooms looking for content - so I've decided against a map until I have a large number of completed missions to fill it.

Instead, you'll be presented with three choices, with different rewards.  As you can see, clicking on one of the missions highlights it and brings up a mission description on the right - showing the character, kinks and content you'll be seeing.

They're all optional -so if you don't want to play a mission, you can Dismiss it forever.  Unplayed, undismissed, missions will simply cycle back into the mission pool for the next day.

Oh, and if you don't fancy playing any of the missions, you can Bunk Off and watch a bizarre Bunking Off sequence that no normal game dev would ever have made 😂

EXAMPLE:

The example shown is Cathy's Dancercise. The eagle-eyed of you will have noticed the 1/3 - meaning that this is a mission chain in 3 parts. While each part has its own enjoyable content and stats, the main 'reward' only comes when you've completed the chain. [NB: there will also be numerous standalone missions].

CONCLUSION:

I think that just about covers it - but this is one of those perfect moments for feedback in the comments below, or over on Discord. Feel free to discuss anything - graphics, user-friendliness, concept, wild speculation... whatever. As aficionados of the game, you guys are the perfect think-tank to consult before I get going and make it all! 😊

Countdown to Phase 2: Missions & Watches ⏰

Comments

There will be some options to sabotage Cole (and maybe Rick) - but it’s not planned for other characters :)

RanliLabz

So one more question could MC possibly sabotage some of the cadets so they don't make it into the branche they want to be in?

Ranulf

It will be possible to do the lot! 😀 [there's no time limit or anything] Whenever you reach a Branch requirement you'll be asked if you want to join - but you can just say no and carry on to 100% if you want (I expect I'll do some sort of cumming sum laude joke for that 😂)

RanliLabz

Ooooo... this looks exciting 😁 With the missions cycling back in, will we be able to do all of the missions in a single play through and get the stats, or will we have to be bit more selective?

Such Sights

Primary Love Interests will be part of the mainline story rather than missions (though they will appear in various missions). All Secondary characters will be getting missions - the Counsellor will be a trainer for EQ and Chad (like some of the most popular secondaries) will get a ‘special’.

RanliLabz

There would any specific missions for the Main Primary love interst? Or to follow any other secondary characters like Chad or the Counselor?

Adán García

He won’t change in appearance (except for within specific missions). The higher his IQ, the less dumb he will seem, tho XD

RanliLabz

but if mc get + int, he will no longer be able playing dumb .... and will his appearance change ?

Nathanael Dugourd

The stats are universal, and count for every Branch (although each Branch has different requirements). Only the Branch XP is Branch specific - e.g. finishing the Barbershop mission chain (3 missions) will give you 1/5 of the required XP for ServiCorps. Be aware that the stats aren't exactly rationed... there are an awful lot to go around, and there won't be many hard choices to make. At the end of Phase 2, I might consider an Easy, Normal, Hard difficulty setting for players who like a challenge - but not until all the missions have been counted!

RanliLabz

So, do the stat bumps, like +1 int, count for every branch? And then you need specific branch exp to finish? Or is it that each branch has a version of the stat that needs to be increased vs a general stat? I vaguely remember an answer to this question, but have since forgotten.

SubtleStubble

XD Good point. Perhaps if you Bunk Off a certain number of times you get sent to the Brig. Moreover, to join a Branch you need XP in the Branch (even ServiCorps) - if you haven’t cleared the hurdle, I guess its the Gulags for you!

RanliLabz

I might well do that (I left a gap under the title in case additional info was needed)

RanliLabz

One does wonder though, what are the consequences if one deigns to simply 'bunk off' at every opportunity that presents itself? Since SpaceCorps' recruitment efforts seem to rely on conscripts, one may surmise, the consequences would be...well nothing good. Execution maybe? For Cis and MC 😲 possibly even Felix too!? Not on my watch! MC is going to attend every session!

Ryan Fox

I’m going to go out on a limb and say probably not Science Corps 😆 and certainly not Flight Corps 😅Though...who knows he could be a savant 🤔 it would make things interesting if there was actually an ace pilot equal to The Red Comet himself under those blond locks of his. He’d probably look mighty fine in the uniform flight gear.

Ryan Fox

Also just out of curiousity in which branche is chad actually?

Ranulf

Hm one thing that could be nice is if the description of the mission listed the characters that are in it just so one doesn't accidentally dismisses a mission with a character they like that happens to be in it just not front and center of the mission

Ranulf

😊 Cheers Watcher!

RanliLabz

I may have to become less Trumpian in my boosterism 😂 Yes, I always take on a bit more than I can chew, but that's kind of my process... challenging myself to do new and better things at the cost of a bit less sleep each night. Dancercise is quite funny (and you don't have to take the big reward on offer at the end... just bank the stats and back out) RE canon: I think the next, final update of Phase 1 is canon playthrough time... I'll let you know closer to the date, tho!

RanliLabz

Thanks Pierre! Exciting things afoot! 😁 (and yes, there will be variety... each update will have at least one f/m and one m/m option; although the way the chips fall will become increasingly randomised as the available missions build up (hence the Bunk Off option 😉).

RanliLabz

There will also be a mainline plot running along the missions - with some stats and kinks associated - but the main focus will be a bevy of missions. Think of them like entries in one of those Choose Your Own Adventure books - some are part of the main story, some are more self-contained, but they all build the narrative and character :)

RanliLabz

😀 My thinking exactly! The missions need to simulate the passing of time, but too long a chain would just be dull.

RanliLabz

Looks great - can`t wait to play it - thanks

Watcher

But is it...THE FINAL COUNTDOWN 😉 Looks really good, just a question for you Ranli, you don't do managing expectations do you? This looks very ambitious and amazing I honestly have no idea how you get that much content done in monthly cycles. I would've said Xenobiology 101 was the way to go in that mission for me...but you DO have me intrigued with dancersise, plus the stat boost would probably help on the path I'd like to take...then again so would +1 IQ potentially 🤔 decisions decisions. One last question and I'll leave it there for the morning, should I start getting ready for that canon playthrough yet?

Ryan Fox

Oooh! I love this idea. I assume that we’ll always have variety in terms of scenes with M/M, F/M, etc. options? Again, just gotta say that I really like how the game is progressing. Super happy to be on board for this amazing ride. It’s only improved since the early stages!!😊

Pierre Storm

As a friend with pointy ears would say: fascinating !

Nathanael Dugourd

Interesting, even exciting, thank you! I guess, it can become also quite intriguing, if you want to have enough missions for every skill/branches etc. Are the missions the only system to "shape" our hero and open certain branch for him, or there will be similar rewards/decision moments in the main plot? Please, don't distract yourself too much :-)

Pilgrim

I think 3-4 parts sounds about right for missions. Any longer and they'll be too tedious, too short and they're just, well, things to check off a list.

Sentimental Penguin

They’ll also have some effect on which missions you can take and some dialogue-picture options (e.g. IQ will make you smarter, so you’ll speak a little differently and some characters will react in different ways). It’s mainly about the Branches, tho!

RanliLabz

Seems pretty straightforward! Not too much going on the selection screen which is good. So do stats have utility outside of the requirements for the various branches?
