Added 2018-06-25 01:52:39 +0000 UTCSorry this went up so late in the day - I recently got back from a Saturday trip to my secret summer retreat, up by Show Low.
There are steep, twisty hills on the way there, and the last bit to my summer place is not so much a road as a suggestion. I anticipated trouble for my poor old van, so I loaded up with extra coolant, oil, hose clamps, gloves, funnel, etc, besides the spares and tools already there.
Amazingly, nothing went wrong (and we spotted something around a dozen dead cars by the side of the road on our drive!). It seems I made the proper offerings to Murphy: By demonstrating I feared his power, and humbly accepted that anything could go wrong, I displayed the proper attitude, and he let me skate this time?
Anyway, I'm finally back in Tucson, and here go the Sunday funnies.

2018-06-27 12:36:10 +0000 UTCSounds like your 'cheap insurance' paid off. A one-time girlfriend's brother used to keep their shared VW Beetle stocked with oil and spare parts. I did the same with mine when I bought it, and it paid dividends... until the engine blew.
