Gohan's Second Chance
Added 2022-11-24 14:00:10 +0000 UTCThanks to the arrival of Gohan BEAST, has his increase in power, new form and development in Dragonball Super Super Hero done enough to give him a second chance at REPLACING Goku as main character? Or are Goten & Trunks going to? It's been a while since the Super Hero movie released and we feel that the time is right to discuss something about in greater detail, now that we've had some time to process things. Something that the movie kinda did, but on first glance, could be beneficial for Dragon Ball as a general franchise in the long run. Essentially, despite not making as much money as Broly, it could have an even BIGGER impact. What do I mean? Well, many years ago, back in the days of the Buu Saga, Toriyama backed down on something bold, on giving Gohan the position of the main character for good. And while there are a lot of misconceptions as to why he did that (the most reasonable answer seems to be the fact that he tried and failed to come up with something compelling) and a lot of fans think it is too late to fix that... but is it really? After all, Toriyama had made bold decisions before, why did he fail here? Let's discuss Gohan's Second Chance and Beast Gohan explained.

If we can have protagonists and deuteragonists, how about a set of cotagonists? Or perhaps that's just a duo ;-) Aside from it being a movie our whole family could see together at the theatre, that's what made the Super Hero movie so much fun, watching how Piccolo interacted with Pan and Gohan respectively. Goku is always too big to fail, whereas the other cast members represent plot wildcards- they'll probably scrape through, but how and at what cost? We've already seen Goku and Vegeta lose what matters to them- a best friend blown up, pride ground to dust, families turned to chocolate, adoptive home planet destroyed- so the stakes feel low. It would be fun to see Piccolo and Gohan emerge as the front-runners because they have priorities beyond harder, better, faster, stronger. Then again maybe GT was onto something with the protagonist crown skipping Gohan.
