VHS Cover: Eliminators

Here's a movie we've had on our shelves for quite a while now but will most likely never do on Best of the Worst because it's both too good and too dull. It's a kind of fun movie with a ragtag group of characters working together to...stop a bad guy from doing something? It doesn't matter. But one of them is a "mandroid" whose lower half is tank wheels! He actually only has the tank wheel torso for a couple of scenes and the rest of the time he just has normal robot legs because this movie isn't nearly as fun as it should be. There's also an Indiana Jones type cocky adventurer character and a Kung Fu guy. Denise Crosby's in it too. The best thing about the movie is definitely the cover.

Lol. I watched this twice in theaters. So bad...

Ah, Playhouse Video: a brand of qual...um...selling things.

BlueGlurp

Surely Denise Crosby has never been in anything dull?

I can already hear Jack dramatically reading out the synopsis from the box!

Fun fact: many years later Charles Band, who produced Eliminators, did in fact make a movie called Mandroid. It's incredibly boring. <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107505/?ref_=nv_sr_2" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107505/?ref_=nv_sr_2</a>

I remember this film from when I was in the kid. Think it was just called “Mandroid” in the UK. I remember the kung fu guy jumping through a big fan.

Both too good and too dull is right. This was a favorite of mine growing up in the 80s. It must have had a deceptively big budget as a lot of the action takes place on speedboats in a river. Lord knows what kind of insurance they needed. I always thought the tank treads were super cool and I wondered why they didn't use it more as it couldn't have been easy to put together. Basically this could have been a great movie if it had a tighter and more focused script. As it stands it's a weird oddity with some memorable scenes/effects/characters punctuated by long stretches where not very much happens.

How could you not do a BotW (or even just anything) about a movie that specifically uses the word Mandroid to refer to the hero, puts TANK TREADS on him, and then calls the movie Eliminators instead of Mandroid?

I unironically love this movie. Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo (Rocketeer, Trancers series, The 1990s Flash TV series) wrote it, and it was produced by Charles Band when he was still running Empire Films. The cast is pretty amazing too; Senise Crosby, Andrew Prine, Conan Lee, and somehow they got Roy Dotrice to be in it? It does have some slow parts and silliest 'cute' robot assistant ever, but when it's not being slow it is very entertaining with a borderline insane plot.

I remember Playhouse Video fondly for their Muppets collections. Weird that they manufactured stuff like this too.

Cool, now I know where Warhammer 40K's <a href="https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/9/90/KataphronBreacher2.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20170219034621" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Kataphron Battle Servitors </a> got their inspiration from.

I've seen this many, many years ago. I seem to remember that the mandroid tank tracks are rather less use than having actual legs

any 80s kid who made regular visits to the video store remembers this one
