EB02 Meta Preview!

With the recent switch to EB02 in the western queue, we’ve gathered some early data showing how the format is beginning to take shape. While these results are still preliminary and likely to shift significantly in the coming weeks, we wanted to give our readers an early look at the evolving meta!

🔝 This Week in the OP10 Meta – Familiar Faces, Fresh Momentum

As the OP10 metagame matures, the top contenders are beginning to settle into form—yet there's still movement beneath the surface. Flexibility, refinement, and matchup awareness remain key themes, as several decks continue to evolve and reposition themselves. Here's how the meta’s top performers are shaping up this week:

🥇 Shanks – Back on Top with Flexible Power
Shanks reclaims its position at the summit, thanks to its ability to flex between aggression and control across multiple builds. Whether piloting a tempo-heavy list or leaning into disruption, Shanks gives its users the freedom to shape the flow of the game. While the “perfect” list remains a moving target, its dominance is anything but uncertain.

🧠 Blackbeard (Teach) – Control Master
Blackbeard continues to thrive through value engines like Kuzan and Liberation, anchoring its control gameplan. As players fine-tune their early plays and tech choices, Teach remains a premier pick for those who favor a patient, calculated route to victory.

🔄 Doflamingo – Proven Contender
Doflamingo stays locked in the top ten thanks to its synergy-focused control strategy and reliable transitions into the midgame. It rewards technical play and clean sequencing, proving week after week that substance wins over flash.

💥 Purple Luffy – Steady, Strong, and Unshaken
Purple Luffy maintains its rock-solid status. With a midgame that explodes on cue and a core list that requires minimal tweaking, it continues to deliver consistent results. Subtle tech updates have smoothed early turns, but its core strengths remain unchanged.

🚀 Green/Purple Lim – Respected Contender
Lim remains a standout after an undefeated Regional run a few weeks ago. Its adaptability across matchups and commanding board development make it a real contender.

📈 Yellow Kid – Solid Contender
After weeks of hovering, Yellow Kid finally breaks into the spotlight. More refined builds and improved sequencing are paying off, and its potential as a top control contender is starting to show. Keep an eye on this one—it may still have room to grow.

⚔️ Zoro – Still Swinging, Still Strong
Though no longer the most talked-about aggro leader, Zoro hasn’t lost a step. Its breakneck speed and relentless offense continue to punish decks that stumble early. The meta has adapted—but Zoro still demands respect.

🎲 Red/Purple Luffy – The Wild Card of OP10
Red/Purple Luffy remains one of the most unpredictable and flexible forces in the format. Its seamless transition between aggression and control makes it a constant threat, especially in the hands of skilled players. For those who thrive on tempo shifts and clutch decisions, this deck remains a thrilling option.

🔄 Blue/Purple Reiju – Staying in the Mix
Reiju maintains a hold in the top 10. A renewed focus on its tempo-control hybrid playstyle is yielding solid results. While it’s too early to call it a mainstay again, Reiju is clearly benefiting from the format’s current shakeups.

🌿 Bonney – Steady Hands, Strong Results
Bonney does what Bonney always does: deliver. With reliable engines and clean sequencing, it continues to reward players who value fundamentals over flash. In a meta filled with curveballs, Bonney is as steady as they come.

🧭 Looking Ahead
While several decks are beginning to lock in their positions, the evolving tech choices and brewing experimentation suggest the OP10 meta still has surprises in store. Flexibility and matchup awareness remain your biggest tools—master those, and you’ll stay ahead of the curve.

Here’s how we evaluated each leader:

Step 1: Game Percentage Ranking (Popularity)
Leaders are ranked based on their presence in the meta, measured by the number of games they’ve been played. The most-played leader scores a perfect 100%, while the least-played receives 0%. This step highlights which decks players are gravitating toward, even if they’re not necessarily dominating.

Step 2: Win Rate Ranking (Performance)
Next, we ranked leaders based on their win rates. The highest-performing leader scores 100%, with all other leaders scaled relative to this benchmark. This step focuses on raw efficiency and success, rewarding decks that consistently secure victories.

Step 3: Ideal Leader Comparison
This step imagines the “perfect” leader: one that combines the highest win rate with the most games played. Each leader is measured against this ideal, balancing performance with popularity. A deck that’s widely played but underperforms—or one that excels in a smaller sample size—falls short of the perfect leader.

Step 4: Score Calculation
Finally, we distill these comparisons into a simple, intuitive scoring system from 0 to 10. Leaders closer to the “100/100” ideal earn higher scores, giving a clearer picture of their overall strength in the current meta.

By leveraging this enhanced approach, we’ve painted a more nuanced picture of the OP09 metagame. As we move forward, these insights should provide valuable guidance for those still engaging with the meta. Let’s dive into this week’s rankings!
