I'm actually from a bit more south in NSW, but if you're up there then I hope you're keeping safe. I'm not surprised by the assumption, I generally cater to a US market and do things like change spelling to match. Though I have been caught a few times using colloquialisms that I thought were common but actually just Aussie/Brit terms (e.g. taking the piss).
