Shantae NSFW Timelapse

I thought I could upload videos directly here but it seems like I can't so I have uploaded the timelapse as an attachment here.

About the process: this is mostly a sketch, but it came out pretty solid and it was mostly thanks to drawing a solid gesture and base first, and also thanks to a simple but effective rendering. 

The main problem I had with this illustration is the face and the top arm. For both I was trying to "guess" where to position elements, which is never the right way to do art. The way I should have gone about it was building up the base structure and draw the face and the arm based on that structure, but I ended up redrawing the whole thing a few times, which is just a waste of time. So this is something I should remember for the future.

If I draw the sketch solid enough though the line come out pretty clean for a sketch, which allows me jumping inking and go straight for coloring.

The rendering here was solid mostly cause of the good color design for shantae, since I didn't have to choose colors myself but use those of the character it definitely helped plenty. I find that the base colors for rendering need to be colors with a really good "white balance", which means that the colors aren't washed out with white but are the "purest". Like in traditional painting, where the colors are at their strongest when you pick them up directly from the tube and lose power when you mix them with white. Once this base of colors is done, then rendering is about separating the shadows and adding highlights and gradients, which are all shown in the video. Here I did all the rendering with the same brush I used for the lineart, which works really well as a whole I have to say, especially for shadows and highlights. I used a soft brush for the subtle gradients though. Then it was just a matter of adding accents and cleaning up the picture. 

Only thing I don't like about the pic is the background color, it looks really dull and I think I could have done a better job with it, but it is what it is.
