Update #8 - Delay because of an Accident

Dear fans, today I have sad news to share with you. The update #8 may be delayed for a few months. The reason is: I lost a significant amount of data which I have been working on since January. The memory drive in which I kept the latest version of the project on has been corrupted.

Since January 2020 I had been using an external SSD to transition between 2 PCs that handled 2 different aspects of work: Programming and Level Design. Last week I was met with this message. I have been trying to restore the lost data for all of the past week, hoping that I could recover as much data as possible, considering I was in the finishing stages of work to complete essential game-play features and levels, which I planned to show in the next Update.

But although I could restore 98% of the large project, the main folder I worked in turned out to be almost completely destroyed... (For the reference, the memory drive is Kingston HyperX SSD. I’m not saying it’s a bad product, I only mention it in hope that somebody might have experienced something similar, or might provide some help in dealing with the issue. Don't hesitate to contact me on Discord, it’s Dreamy#6944)

Why wasn't I backing up the project? Well, for all the same reasons as many other people don't do backups. It takes time and it doesn't sound like a big deal when you feel you're not in danger. And I honestly never had such an accident happen out of nowhere. I'm used to being quite careful with how I treat things and this is the first time the eternal memory drive just became inaccessible, after working perfectly for less than a year. Truth is I bought the drive specifically to use it as a backup, I made sure it is good enough to handle the game engine, so the situation is quite ironic.
To make things clear, I’m not working on the project full-time. I was coming back to it on and off when I had time and I was more focused on finishing the features than on backing stuff up.

Why wasn’t the project on GitHub or any other place of that sort? Aren’t you working together with somebody? You have to be using it, right?! I was working on the project alone since Autumn 2019, just like I used to back at the project’s humble beginnings. Because of my chaotic work schedule and the absence of programmers who knew the project well enough to create features more or less independently from me, I didn’t care about setting up a collaboration service for the project, literally up to this month. I recently found a level designer that could help, so I started making arrangements with one of our team members to find and use a service that can handle large files and projects like ours.

This event is my mistake and well, if the data-restoration agency isn't able to help in the coming weeks, I’ll continue rebuilding the lost data, making up for my mistake. I can’t do much in this situation but learn from my mistake and continue working. So that’s what I will do.

I’m sorry, dear fans, for letting you down. The Update, just like the game itself is unfortunately delayed at least to June. But it’s still coming.

Ufff, well Kingston ssd drive is not good. Or not good for high usage. Better is Adata or samsung evo or evo pro. This ssd drives have long lifetime. And good luck with project.

Good luck getting things back on track! We’re here for ya. If it helps in future, I find that GitHub private repos (since they’re free now) make a great place to back up my coding projects, and a good platform to use when I inevitably share them. If GitHub doesn’t suit, a few other good reputable git sites (BitBucket and GitLab come to mind) would do the job and keep data safe just as well. It is up to you how you manage your project. Thank you for putting so much of your time and effort into this!
