US Bill Threatens to Ban Trans People Online - Early Access
Added 2025-09-30 14:53:35 +0000 UTCMichigan’s House Bill 4938 would not only ban any depiction of a trans person presenting as their gender, but any written description, with up to 25 years in prison for any service provider caught violating sad ban. This bill will have a disastrous impact, especially if copied elsewhere.

The chances of this bill emerging from committee to reach a general vote are very tiny; such bills are regularly introduced by extremist legislators who want to pander to the worst of their constituency without needing to worry about potential consequences should they be passed. A remarkably similar bill was introduced in the most recent Texas legislative session, where the anti-trans sentiments are far stronger, and yet it also died in committee. The failure to get traction is cold comfort in a way, however. We need to remember that for many years, the same fate awaited anti-abortion bills.

2025-10-01 02:41:41 +0000 UTCVery troubling. The way the fash is 'flooding the zone' is making this kind of thing hard to see over the flood of ugliness. Wish I had an answer, but it does at least seem that some are aware of it. It seems to me though, that raising awareness is most important. There is a strong motivation in the US to oppose the current regime. Showing willing to support our allies seems vital to support an intersectional struggle, just as the right tries to keep us occupied and divided.
