Discord Assignment the 3rd - Week 1
Added 2020-10-18 13:08:28 +0000 UTCIt's time for another one of these so I'll just get out the way and let the lovely patron that organises these give the introduction.
A year has gone by with plenty of changes to the game that we all know and love, but we can’t quite let it slip by without organizing one more of our annual Discord Assignment shenanigans, can we now?
Long-time followers of No Haven might remember how this goes, but I’ll summarize the details for any interested newcomers! As in the past two years that we did this, this will be an event lasting for most likely a month or two at the very least, consisting of a few phases: voting on a theme, brainstorming together and each willing person submitting a prompt that uses the theme to at least some extent, voting on the submitted prompts for a few rounds and finally polishing the grand winner together! All of the actual voting will be done through polls on Bedlam’s Patreon.
This winner will be submitted via the same system that Bedlam uses for patron assignments (the costs of which have already been taken care of), and an amazing fellow discordian has generously donated funds to at least start work on a matching commission, too!
Who is allowed to join, and how can you join should you be interested? That’s easy! If you can read this post, you are as eligible as any of us to join the discussion. There will be a special channel for this endeavour on Bedlam’s discord, and if you’re not currently a part of the discord you can still try leaving prompts in the relevant patreon posts when we reach the respective stages - we’ll try to take them into account! That said, it might be a lot easier if you decide to join the server. Most of us don’t bite!
For the sake of transparency, though, I do want to remind people that Bedlam ultimately reserves the right to veto any suggestion that he thinks might have issues be it for not fitting in terms of content, complexity, breaking existing lore, etc. Likewise, please remember that this is for a fairly “normal” assignment in terms of scope and that we can’t turn this into an entire chain of elaborate assignments, for example.
With all that said, we’ll start with our first phase - selecting the key theme for any later submission! Whereas we had things like types of magic, assignment types and locations for the last two discord-assignment iterations, we’re going to pick between two races - the ever-lovely fantasy classics you all know: the orcs and the dwarves!
Now, there is a bit of a twist - neither of the two will be allowed to get submissions focused on their most standard attribute:
- The orcs can NOT be featured in a marauding assignment or defending assignment where they are the aggressive party, so no assignments that feature orcs pillaging a village or your camp protecting a goblin hovel from them, for example. (Edit: Think Most Impropa as an example, but not Tavern Takeover - Bedlam)
- The dwarves are NOT currently subterranean - while they might have ties to their underground kin, whatever reason these dwarves have to drive them for our various prompt ideas has brought them to the surface. There currently aren’t really any dwarf-focused assignments, and this could be something to help that if the majority want it to be!
All in all, I hope you all enjoy the chance to make an assignment together, and I’m looking forward to seeing what you can come up with. Cast your votes in the attached poll, and we’ll see whether orc or dwarf emerges victorious.
And now, without any further ado… let the Third Annual Discord Assignment Shenanigans commence!
Right back again. Given these led before too Arisin' and Little Demon, Big City, both assignments I personally think turned out really well I'm definitely looking forward to how this ends up this time.
